I believe they were misdemeanors in both cases, not really sure. So what is the proper punishment IYO?

gone. That would be my opinion no matter what because I simply despise thieves

that's also a real life lesson. Think they would get a second chance if they stole from the register at McD's? Couple extra mopping assignments and all is forgiven?

drinking beer at a college party isnt even close to check fraud.

True, but underage drinking, resisting arrest, providing booze for underage students, and weed is still breaking the law, right?

For the record, I don't care what they did and whatever punishment they received, just using it as an example of my overall point.

Richt kicked off Marshall and the other two freshmen within hours of stealing $500 from their teammates. My guess is he did not know how they would develop as football players since they were freshmen.

With this group, he has a starting safety, 2 DLinemen on the 2-deep depth chart, and a FR WR whose brother is a QB on the team.

My guess is he and the AD are talking with Jay Carney for tips to try and get around the precedent they already set with Marshall.

You're reaching, bad. And normally I like your posts and really enjoy your opinions.

Maybe. However, just two years ago it was a misdemeanor involving $500 and within 48 hours the players are gone.

With this one, a misdemeanor involving $700, the players are on the practice field. There has to be a difference.

In any event, glad you do like my posts, however you need to hit the like thing more often to get my percentage up higher!

Georgia and Richt kicked off Nick Marshall and another player for stealing around $500 from their teammates.

This is the difference here.....once they broke the "band of brothers" code, CMR had not other option with Marshall and the others.

What a joke.

Agree. I really like Richt's choice of words below...

Richt said Tuesday that the four, who were charged with receiving double payments for checks of $71.50 issued by the Georgia athletic department, have been assigned extra work, including early morning running.

They "received double payments" because they cashed the same checks twice. He almost makes it sound like they were victims.

Further, the fact that these were University of Georgia checks that they were cashing twice is essentially the same as stealing money from the same university that has provided them a scholarship.

I'm sure this isn't limited to UGA, but it's still a sad reflection on college athletes and the athletic programs.

If these were our guys no one would be demanding kicking them off....of course all of you know this but choose to ignore it. Nor would we kick them off so quit throwing stones.

I didn't realize you spoke for all Vol fans... my apologies. And fwiw, if we had players trying to steal from the University I would have no problem if they were kicked off the team.

Associated Press Updated: March 25, 2014, 9:17 PM ET

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia coach Mark Richt said Tuesday he's still deciding how to discipline four players arrested last week on charges of illegal check-cashing.

The players, including starting safety Tray Matthews, are participating in spring practice, which continued Tuesday. Richt said that does not mean he has ruled out dismissals for the group, which also includes defensive linemen Jon Taylor and James DeLoach and wide receiver Uriah LeMay.

"I wouldn't put anything out of the realm of possibilities right now," Richt said. "Right now we're just allowing them to continue to work..."

I wonder how they've looked in spring practice? --Not that that would have anything to do with the eventual punishment, of course.

I wouldn't have a problem if they were kicked off either. What the coach thinks is necessary I am good with. I will rephrase and say I expect the majority of vol fans would not be upset if they stayed with the team.
