LG do you have any comments about Obama's admin using tax payer dollars to do a photo op yesterday in NYC and not tell anyone about it? surely you've seen the video of the ppl running for their lives. Wonder how much that cost, not to mention how insensitive it was.
I just figured that with the whole swine flu thing and the economy still very much an issue, if the President was going to address the nation, the networks would carry it. Not a big deal, in the end, I suppose.
I believe Obama already addressed the Swine Flu, his response was something to the effect of "no big deal (my words)".
We are closely monitoring the emerging cases of swine flu in the United States, Mr. Obama said, speaking at the National Academy of Sciences. This is obviously the cause for concern and requires a heightened state of alert, but its not a cause for alarm.
I don't think that's necessarily what he said.
I was only being half serious there.
With that being said I don't see that you can have it both ways, if it is a cause for concern and requires us to be alert, then surely there is a cause to be alarmed.
I may just be splitting hairs here but the two statements kind of seem at odds to me. Maybe he should have simply said we need to be concerned but we need not lock ourselves in our home and avoid public places. Is it just me or do you guys see the two statements somewhat at odds?
Forgive me for my weather nerdiness, but this seems to be like when where you live is put under a tornado/severe thunderstorm watch. It means the conditions are favorable for something to happen, but just not right at this point in time.
I have several comments.
First, the video of that is truly disturbing. And the video that shows people on the streets panicking is flat out distressing and you cannot help but feel terrible for everyone who saw that and totally freaked out. I think for those of us who weren't in New York on 9/11 its probably even worse than we can pick up from the video that's out there for those that were. Had to be absolultely terrifying to the people walking around on Monday.
Second, the guy who approved this. I am both critical and somewhat sympatheitc to him. On the one hand, it is blatantly obvious that no one would ever do something like this if he had realized the reaction. He claims he told state and local officials, and they probably did. But clearly they just did not realize what this would do to people. And they should have. Should he lose his job over it? Probably. But he didn't do it on purpose.
I think in the end it goes into the "huge blunder" file. I don't think its fair to tie it directly to Obama. I don't know the details, but I tend to doubt that Obama even picked htis guy for this post (other than to sign off on it) and of course he was not consulted about the actual use of the plane that day. He's captain of the ship, yes, but something out of the blue like this, eh, I just don't view it as "political" so much as insensitive by the folks who set it up.
so u think they take an air force 1 without him knowing? i find it hard to believe, but i guess anything is possible.
When you say its "his" plane, you are just way off. You make it sound like he's got it in a hangar in his backyard. He doesn't own it, pilot it, work on it, whatever. Unless he's flying on it that day, he's just not got any need to even be thinking about it.
I really doubt that anyone came to him and bothered him about it. Sort of like asking him if its okay if they take his limo to the gas station. He doesn't have anything to do with that.

who do you think wanted these photos taken? the pentagon? please.
LOL!
Yeah I am quite confident the Air Force Pilot just decided to go out for a stroll!
I needed to get my flight hours in this month!
lol:
The Air Force One photo-op flight over lower Manhattan on Monday was so secret that the president and the secretary of defence learned only after hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers watched in terror as the jet and two fighter planes buzzed the city, and the White House is scrambling to find out why.
It was carried out by the Defense Department with little warning, infuriating New York officials and putting the White House on the defense. Even Mayor Michael Bloomberg didn't know about it, and he later called it "insensitive" to fly so near the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision," Caldera said in a statement. "While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused."
