Gulliver Prep star athlete
Frankie Telfort is still racking up the attention across the nation, but it appears that two schools have made the biggest impact for the speedy linebacker/safety.
Is Telfort close to making a decision? We recently caught up with Telfort to talk about his two top schools, his impressions of one of those favorites this weekend after their big win and where things currently stand.
With well over 25 offers to his credit, Gulliver Prep star linebacker/safety has a lot to ponder when making a final college choice. He isn't in a hurry to make that decision however, but in the meantime two schools appear to be separating themselves from the rest of the pack.
"My top two would have to be Southern California and Florida. Both have very stable coaches and I like the aggression they both play with in always attacking. I don't really believe I could go wrong with either program to be honest. At this point, I've seen Florida several times so I'm pretty interested in checking out the Trojans. Right now I don't have a leader," explained Telfort.
Last weekend, Telfort got a chance to see the Gators big battle with the LSU Tigers as Florida rolled to a big 51-21 win. Telfort admitted that while he usually watches the defense, he was extremely impressed at the performance of Florida WR Percy Harvin.
"Percy is a beast. It was unbelievable to watch how fast and quick he is in the open field. I mean at one point I think he had more total yards then LSU so I don't think there's any question he had a huge game for Florida."
On the defensive side of the ball, Florida also got a tremendous effort from their defensive line and linebackers as the defense got into the scoring fun on a late interception return. Overall, Telfort said the Gators were much more intense then what he saw previously out of the defense.
"I knew they struggled some against Ole Miss but at the same time I knew in this game they would bounce back. The linebackers came up, filled their gaps a lot better, and the defensive line was out of this world in shutting down a very potent LSU rushing attack, that's what impressed me the most."
Even with the effort, Telfort isn't ready to put the Gators out in front, but he did talk about where the Florida coaches like him at if he does indeed pick the Gators on signing day.
"I would probably say at this point the coaches really like me at the outside linebacker position. They are very impressed in how much area I can cover and how I can close any gap very quick between the tackles."

In contrast, the USC Trojans apparently have a different approach and much like Florida he loves the fact that the Trojans head coach has a history of coaching former big time players in the NFL.
"Oh yeah, that's big with USC head coach Pete Carroll coaching a lot of defensive players in the NFL. Obviously when you pick schools you have to consider which coaching staff is going to make you the best possible player you can be. At this point, I would say USC would like me more as a strong safety in their defense. Personally, I don't really have a preference, my goal is always to make big plays no matter where I line up."
The next step for Telfort could be official visits, at this time, the speedy star is still trying to line up visits again for Florida, USC and others.
"I know I'm taking a visit to Stanford in January, then a trip to Duke after that. I would say my top five teams would be Florida, Southern California, Stanford, Duke and LSU."
Making big plays hasn't been a problem this year for Telfort who last season had to endure lingering injuries.
"I'm having a lot of fun out there. I feel there's always a chance I can break the big one with my speed. Also, when you have a player like Darian Mallory to compliment you back there, it takes a lot of pressure off because he's one heck of a running back."
On the defensive side of the ball, Telfort is mostly playing the outside linebacker position, but the Raiders like to spread him all over the field, but where he plays consistently just depends on the opponent for Gulliver Prep.
"If we play an elusive quarterback, the coaches usually like to line me up as a spy to cover him throughout the game. Then with other match-ups I play inside linebacker if they need me to stuff the run. I feel this year my game is much more complete with better cover skills and I'm a lot quicker, and stronger this season. Overall, everything is just going very well with the team because we have so many weapons."
