Franklin on Saban Being New Commish

This is worth the read. Franklin makes some good points. It's time to step up and start solving some problems that are starting to really hurt college football.

First-HELL to the NO!

Second, Saban being overseer of NCAA, how is that any different than the football we have known for the last 15 years??

If he were from any other team though, I would probably think it a good match.

Doesn't matter who it is, the SEC and B10 aren't going to cede authority to another commissioner.

What "control"? Today's situation is confused, uncongealed & just an unsustainable mess!

I would assume a "football commissioner" would have control over schedules, player/coach discipline, bowl assignments and much more. There's not a thing a commissioner could do about NIL and transfers without making the players employees, them unionizing and signing a CBA and of course CFB getting an anti-trust exemption.

Yeah, let's have a coach who was recently making over $10 million a year from the university, another couple million on endorsements, free cars and the use of a private jet dictate how much players should be paid. I'm sure he's interested in sharing the wealth now.

So, you believe the current situation is okay & the Power 4 folks will be good caretakers of CFB? Nice fairy tale.

That's correct.

Current NCAA head Charlie Baker, a former Governor and potential Senate candidate, I'm seeing, has a better chance getting something done in Congress than Saban does.

And it's bad when we're down to depending on Congress to help and our backup plan may be making Nick Saban king.

Nope, I don't think the current situation is "OK". I just think the idea of a CFB commissioner is just ridiculous without major changes and conferences ceding power.

Not No, but #(&@ NO! This guy wears team colors on TV, has an office in their building, and is probably still on staff at some level. This absolutely cannot happen regardless of his reputation. If he were a judge, there is no doubt he would have to recuse himself. Every decision that will ever be made that benefits Bama or punishes any other school, will get complete scrutiny and the cry of bias.

Everyone comes from somewhere. Every sec commish, executive, etc. At some point, you have to trust some people to set aside bias for a former institution. Roy Kramer came from Vandy and certainly showed no bias towards it as SEC commish. What makes you think Saban can't do this just as well as everyone else?

Do you think Šaban will also be biased towards Michigan State, LSU, Toledo, and Kent State?
Did you not watch his reaction on selection sunday. He couldnt get over Bama being left out and kept hammering SOS while continuously ignoring all the other commentators talking abiut bad losses.

He will be biased as all hell towards Bama. Bama could go 6-6 and hed force them into the playoffs saying they clearly have more talent than those 10-2/11-1 teams.

Saban spent all season trying to sell Bama on ESPN. Maybe give it a couple years and see if he can ever talk bad about Bama before we crown him king of college football.

Yea, I'm going to need some explanation of how exactly he "ruined cfb" and some data proving it, otherwise this is a lazy, uneducated and homer take.

The only reason Saban doesent like it is because the playing field is level. It was perfectly fine when Alabama was stacking the deck. Now that he can’t he retires from Alabama.

And that ruined college football how?

Honestly if you're going to have a commissioner, Saban is probably the best choice..

Enough of this "Gawd no, he's uh bamer" BS. Some of you sound just as dumb as the bama fans you ridicule...

And this is you stirring the pot.

How fast we forget him lobbying for Alabama, while supposedly being bias, on national TV. When they had no case to argue to be in the playoff.

Him stacking the deck or leveling the playing field and Saban taking his ball and going home?

If you whine and cry on TV because everything is fair but didn’t make a peep when it wasn’t that sends a very clear message.

It’s only ok if Alabama cheats and no one else.

How can a commissioner have more power than the NCAA? If the court has crushed the NCAA then a commissioner would have no power in time either.

Whatever... Like itnor not he was doing what he thought best for HIS team. If he had been Tennessee's coach everyone would've been all sh!ts and giggles for anything he wanted to do.

My point as far as him being a cfb commissioner are his superb abilities as a CEO and as a person committed standing up for cfb and doing what's best for it. Honestly, I think he would be that guy if given a commissioner type role.

Unless the commissioner is given power by congress or the courts to establish rules that won’t be immediately struck down by the first lawsuit filed, then the whole discussion is moot.
