Freak's night before the UGA game admittedly off topic thread

I just think it's hard to expect freshman to come in and contribute right away on the defensive line. It's certainly possible, but not ideal.

Looking at next year, just seeing how many defensive linemen we graduate is enough to scare me a lot.

That scares me too.

Not nearly as concerned about the o-line.

Was thinking the other day about what we will look like in coming years. Saddens me that we have to wait.

Oh I won't say it will be easy next year, but at least we have freshmen that are gaining experience by watching this line and have gotten some reps, albeit early in the season. The DL been more or less the unsung heroes of this team. Everyone had made a huge deal out of the O line this year, but the D line has been the ones performing way above expectations.

One thing I point to is Coach Stripling. He's a very good coach.

Coach Jones says he's the best defensive line coach in the country. :) Whether that's true or not, I think he's done a very nice job thus far.

not as disturbing

Wow!!!!! St. Augustine high school RB Leonard Fournette: 36 rush 262 yards ,TD, Rec, TD. Talk about a workhorse. Anyone know what that kids rated (just curious)?

Butch can talk some trash.

On A.J. Johnson.

Four weeks ago Jones was calling Johnson an NFL practice-squad player who got to share the field with Western Kentucky linebacker Andrew Jackson, whom the coach dubbed a first-round draft pick.

Two weeks ago, Jones barked at Johnson that he'd be a walk-on at Florida.

This week, ahead of sixth-ranked Georgia's visit, Jones told Johnson he was a "wanna-be Bulldog."

Good read.

I've respected him for several years. When I start looking at players heading into the draft, there's often a player or two that he coached up from relative anonymity.

So you're saying you'd take him over Coach O? :)

For me, I'm just waiting for that one thing that makes the team click and start working as a full up unit as opposed to a bunch of random people wearing the same clothes on the field.

And I think a big part of that would be a win over a ranked opponent. It would show our folks "see, you can win against a ranked opponent and you are better than you think." It's psychology in action and once we get that "signature win" over a ranked opponent, I suspect we'd see a huge shift in the team and how they perform.

I like when CBJ told AJ that there weren't 2 down MLBs in the NFL. Meaning he needed to be able to play in coverage as well.

Anybody else worried about our backs this weekend? Lane didn't practice and is 50/50. Neal was limited in practice, which was hopefully just precautionary.

We may see a lot of Tom Smith, and maybe even Summerhill.

Thoughts?

Haven't seen enough of Smith to make a call on him, but Summerhill absolutely shredded Austin Peay. If he'd had one more play, he would have had a TD. Kid's a player. I wouldn't mind seeing him take the field at all if Lane is out.

one more try

oh well it didn't work
