Fred Thompson is all but declared. America needs man like Fred in this position to close gaps left by W, and slick Willy. This is a man who has publicly stated that the french are currently making more sense than US house is. He stands firm on Border issues, abortion, the war in Iraq. His positions are laid out plain and simple unlike the current administration. I don't feel as though W has been the worst prez in history, just a man who is poor at communication skills. Fred stands strong and defined on all issues and will make it known in plain and simple word why he feels the way he does. Even if you disagree with some of the issues, you will see his point and he feels this way. Here stands our chance as americans to leave it all on the table and fix some real issues. He won't be perfect but he acknowledges the real problems like the American publics current distrust of our own political system. And last but not least who doesn't love the way he responded to Micheal Moore in the video, if you have not seen the video go to youtube and watch. Fred Thompson in '08, America's last hope before we begin praying to Allah a few times per day.

So what are his views?

Whatever Howard Baker tells him they are.

Exactly . . . I like Thompson, but I really am afraid he is going to insult my intelligence with a "We need to change Washington" message when he is probably going to have as many Washington insiders behind him as anybody.

Really though, GA. After the circus of the last seven years, can anyone really insult our intelligence anymore? I believe we've insulted it enough by our own collective inaction and apathy.

My guess is that a lot of mopping up is going to take place in the next 18 months by the current administration.

I'm not sure them trying to fix that which they have already broken is such a good idea.

I don't think there is any "fixing" that's going to happen. Just give the Iraqis another 6 months or so before we declare "victory" and draw down the troops.

The sad part of that is, without a complete strategic change of direction, the situation will be no appreciably better in six months than it is today.

What direction would you take the strategy in?
Two main components: 1. Make it quite clear to the Iraquis that it's sink or swim time. Increase intensive training of local security forces. Not making it clear from the beginning that their destiny is their own is one of the single greatest mistakes of this campaign. 2. More emphasis on the targeted, small special forces type operations that were extremely successful in Afghanistan and less emphasis on adding more GIs.

O stop using logic, we can send more troops, more money, get right in the middle of their civil war, or they will fight us here:crazy: look under your bed to find hidding terrorist.

I think there's plenty to criticize about the war in Iraq, but people had better come to terms with the fact that the threat of domestic terror is very very real.
