Freeze and Dabo negative religious recruit UT

Think Tacogate

Arian and friends are hungry. It is an NCAA violation to bring them tacos.

The christian thing is to bring them tacos

NCAA rules and Christian compassion are often at odds. I have no problems with coaches that break these rules out of a care for struggling young poor people, but industrialized cheating to buy players is slimy

Being a minister I will say without reservation, that more damage is done to the cause of Christ by proclaimed "Christians" using it as a vehicle for selfish gain, than anything else. They leave a slimy trail of broken faith, distrust and cynicism behind. Once someone's innocent faith has been broken, it is almost impossible to win them back.

Well the IRS doing little to distinguish between actual preachers and people duping grandmas into giving them tax free money for Lear jets does provide a pretty good incentive...

I agree with this. I see this every day. All people are not perfect, including Christians. Non-Christians are just waiting on a Christian to make a mistake so they can call them a hypocrit.

Sounds exactly like Ted Cruz.

Religion is man made. That's all people need to know. Does god really care if it's Jimmy Swaggart or Bozo the clown preaching?

I edited it with a question which measures freezes intent with this

How do we measure ones intent here?

Go read his twitter and tell me your thoughts on his intent

Not being judgmental because I personally believe it's sinful to judge a man's heart but could his tweets not be part of his plan to portray himself in a Christian light to further himself personally?

That makes absolutely no sense.

Here is the best example I know of NCAA violations being at complete odds with Christ like actions.

A friend of mine was a D1 coach at a school and took another job. A kid he recruited to The first school had a death in family and his grades suffered greatly. The coach reached out to his former player because he was worried about his well being.

At the end of the year his new schools compliance ran records of his phone calls/text

He got hammered pretty hard for NCAA recruiting violations

No doubt it could be

Same with Cruz and Rubio pushing faith hard

IMO freeze tweets are genuine or at the very least should be treated at such

What's their story?

Both have been arrested for drug use. One, Robert, was kicked off the team prior to their bowl game for possession. He was trying to scale a wall in Atlanta and fell 2 stories and was injured. Pot was discovered on him. His younger brother was hospitalized in intensive care for smoking synthetic marijuana. Not sure of his condition as of late.

Yep for Dabo for sure it's not just recruiting he actually does push the envelop and really tries to impact his players in this way

I lost a lot of respect for Dabo when he stood up for religion, then cowardly backed off when he failed to stand up against homosexuality. Can't have it both ways. And Freeze does indeed need to tend to his own garden instead of trying to condemn another school or coach.

We left about 90,000 a year in Florida to move to Harlan Ky. We will be making less than 40,000 together at our jobs we have found here. It took me 4 months to find a job that didn't require me to work on weekends. There are way more of us small congregation pastors that live a life of sacrifice and faith, than there are those prosperity charlatans. I love God, without him I would be dead or in jail..."For we are not our own, for we are bought with a price". I dont say a whole lot on here about this, because VN is a place where I can just be a regular guy and argue about silliness. I don't come here to preach, but this thread struck home with me.

So a coach that doesn't act "Christlike" at all times is causing destruction when they proclaim their faith?

If you don't follow freeze on twitter I would love for your take as a minister of his tweets. Does it come off to you as a man all about personal gain by pushing his faith

Twitter is a controlled setting and I don't know how you can judge Freeze's motives based off his tweets.

I can say that what I have seen from him on there seems genuine.

If he was a politician I would agree but he is a coach. Has to pick and choose battles and siding in such a political subject isn't something he should do. Even if that political subject is Biblical he stands to win nothing by even commenting on it

Agreed

So how can we judge him?

Using the NCAA rules issues against his faith is just plane ignorant IMO

If he is found involved with a RickyP type NCAA issue then that is one thing but some of these NCAA rules are just plain unhuman like my post about my coaching friend

Not trying to be smart but for a christian it is actually a relationship, not religion. We all fail in relationships at time.

My brother has a saying as it pertains to being judgemental vs using good judgement..."They say you can't judge a book by its cover, and in most cases I agree, but only a blind man can't tell a difference in a Playboy and a Field and Stream, by looking at its cover"

Wasn't trying to imply anything about you or men of the church in general. Just pointing out that it's insanely easy for people to qualify for tax ememption even if they're obviously just duping gullible people out of their hard earned money, so there's a pretty obvious incentive for charismatic people to do so.

I can't buy that. Sorry. So basically we can pick and choose which rules we like to follow. So if I am a recruit and my dad needs a kidney and a booster offers me $5K towards medical expenses, then I can take the $$$. You are setting yourself up here Hulk.
