Freshman wide receivers

Gotta be honest. The fact that they're still rolling with Thornton and banged up Bru and Squirrel despite our passing game being so pedestrian tells me that Matthew's might not actually "deserve" more reps. For whatever reason, if he were able to get lined up and run the correct routes and not whiff on blocks, the staff likely would have tried him by now.
If somebody has a tape breakdown of Mathews showing he is running untouched in the defensive backfield, waving his arms, 10 yards away from any DB, then I would believe them when they say he needs more touches. The alternative that you just posted is more accurate. Heupel would rather run with a guy with one arm, a guy with a separated shoulder, then something is probably off with the new 5* hot commodity (who was also hurt early in camp).

Think with the SEC title and more than likely, the playoffs being out of reach, that we see the upcoming freshman WRs get their chance to see the field more?
I'm sure we'll see some of the young guys in the next two games since their redshirts will not be blown. At least, I hope we see them get some game experience

Must have
Tennessee over UTEP
Tennessee over Vanderbilt
Texas over A&M

Need 1
Florida over Ole Miss
Miss State over Ole Miss
Army over ND
USC over ND
Kentucky over Texas
Georgia Tech over Georgia
Oklahoma over Alabama
Auburn over Alabama

May be enough (50/50)
Ohio State 20+ over Indiana

Feel free to add any if I missed them, but I think this would put Tennessee into the playoffs safely.
We need ole miss or Notre Dame to lose. Also Texas must beat aYm or the Aggies could leapfrog TN. TX won’t drop from 5-7spots with an aTm loss.

Indiana will advance if they keep within 14-17 points. The committee loves Indiana, coach and style of play while viewing TN’ offense as boring with no big plays.

All i hear and read is “TN can’t make explosive plays.” It’s too late now but I wish Heup would’ve said we are a “ball control” team as that may have changed the narrative.

No it goes well beyond that.

Our offense breaks down schematically against aggressive man coverage defense .

Heupel will continue to preach “execute simple things at a high level”…
Unfortunately if it’s so simple- its impossible for the offense to operate at a high level because the defense knows how to contain it.

We’ve seen this at times in 2022 with a veteran team that year. Now we’re seeing it much more this season. Look back at the tape. Many times Nico has nowhere to throw the ball.

And this isn’t a fix that happens overnight. He needs to bring in someone outside his circle.
He doesn’t need to fire anyone. Just bring in someone who also knows the structure of our offense and then give it some variety.

Heupel will always fall back on what he knows. And what he knows will never be enough to beat UGA at they are.
Alabama beat UGA. We beat Alabama. So don’t sit here and say UT didn’t have the horses to beat them.
He knows how to coach and actually does really well with the talent he has. Best record since Fulmer and Fulmer has the best talent in the Nation. In today’s game with NIL, we now have many more teams that have competitive players and are capable of recruiting good talent. Heupel started with about 30 % of his scholarship players and prohibited from recruiting enough players to get his numbers up to the maximum number of scholarship players.. we still can not recruit to the maximum number. However, we are still in the top 10 and have been there for a number of weeks. We are improving our talent, but still have holes to fill. It will be done And it will be done in the near future. The biggest problem I think we have now is depth at LB, Safety, and QB. I think we talent on the Oline but they need experience. The biggest problem I see on offense is not expanding our offensive play calling. It may not be possible because of our depth @ QB and experienced Oline. . I see us getting better at both of these positions next year.

Unless we lose to Vandy or UTEP the chances of us missing the playoffs are very low. If we end the season in the top 11 we are in. It would take some fairly wild stuff happening for that to change like as I mentioned Indiana Beating OSU and then beating Oregon and A&M beats Texas BYU and Biose State run the table and Miami wins out. If all those things were to happen we would be in some trouble. The chances all of those things happen are very slim.

Not if ole miss runs table
Ole Miss winning out wouldn't be that great for us but I'm not that worried about it. Florida and Miss State have the ability to play spoiler. I know everyone is gonna go on with the they suck crap but they are both still SEC teams and a road win in the Swamp is never a given especially with Florida needing a win to get bowl eligible. As far as SoS we likely end up with a similar SoR and SoS to Ole Miss. Their loss to Kentucky cancels out our loss to Arkansas their loss to LSU is worse than ours to UGA. our win at Bama is at least as good as theirs to UGA but I think it comes down to we have played 4 ranked teams and they have played 2. We are 3-1 they are 1-1 vs ranked. Thats the kind of stuff they will be looking at. If Oklahoma and NC state and especially can pull off some wins it helps our cause. the big 2 games we care about though are Florida/Ole Miss Vandy/LSU would really help us. Oklahoma/LSU is also a big one.

Every LSU loss directly hurts Bama and Ole Miss and A&M.

It's kind wild how now almost every college football game means something even ones you might not think. Kent State or UTC winning out has some effect on UT even now.

As I heard someone say today, things will likely work themselves out over the next 2 weeks. We know the odds that the SEC finishes with 5 (or 6) teams with 2 losses or less seems.... unlikely to say the least. I also find it unlikely that the B1G will send 4 teams. So these things will likely work themselves out over the next 2 weeks.

The main thing we need is for ND to lose one of these last 2 games (I think Army takes them down personally.) That would virtually guarantee that only 1 non-Power 4 team gets into the playoffs.

I also think Maryland beats PSU in the final week of the season, essentially taking them out of contention. Indiana is a wild card here since they will surely be 11-1. Hopefully OSU beats them by 20+ and the committee leaves them out with no ranked wins.

I believe Auburn finds a way to beat either 1 or both of A&M/Bama. Auburn is fighting for bowl eligibility and has been playing in recent weeks (Vandy game notwithstanding).

And I think there is a solid chance that OM stumbles in 1 of their last 2 games.

Georgia and GT is a rivalry and GT has already knocked off Miami this year, so you can bet they are licking their chops to knock UGA out of the playoffs. Not many people have mentioned how well Haynes King has played this year when he's been healthy. He's been absolutely electric. GT would be competing for the ACC crown if King were healthy all year.

Staley’s redshirt ain’t getting burned. Also we still very well could make playoffs.

Utep is a good opportunity to see more from those two players though regardless, and would think they get some good pt in the second half.
I don’t think he’s played in a single game so he can play in the last two and still redshirt. Mike Mathew’s has played in 8 games.

Chance? The only chance they’d get would be an overthrown or wounded duck pass from Nico Guarantano.

So you think the coaching staff has given up on the possibility of making the playoff and will start playing more freshmen since the games don’t matter now?

Yeah, I bet that’s the case. You nailed it. Good job.
Guess we will just have to find out with my possibility. Still hope we see more of them.

Ole Miss D line will be a disaster for both Fl and ms state. Neither will slow down Ole Miss offense . Hope I’m wrong but Ole Miss will pound both in the trenches.

I can agree with you on Miss state... but Florida has been looking less crappy lately and its in the swamp and that NEED that win. Sitting at 5 wins they cant take any of their remaining games for granted. Motivation is a monster and SEC road games are hell, especially this season. Their DLine (Ole miss) is really great. Thing is Colorado has proven that you can beat teams and have your QB sacked 4-6 times a game. Ole Miss had issues with mobile QB's and Lagaway is one of those and Florida looks like a very different team when he plays. UT knocking Mertz out probably saved Napier's Job.

On paper that's the case, but what can Kentucky do that Florida can't do? How was Kentucky able to beat Ole Miss in Oxford but Florida can't beat them in the swamp?

It appears that way. It’s funny to me that people can say teams are better now, and it makes sense. But when people say Tennessee needs to work on improving the passing game against UTEP, others say it’s too late and we are who we are @LittleVol 🙂
Agree. It took ole miss time to gel. Their d line is nasty. Best ole miss roster I’ve ever seen.
