You, my Vol Nation friends, are going to help me stay on track with my workouts and diet. Every Friday I will post my progress. Feel free to play along.
So everyone except SDV weigh in on Friday. SDV cant be bothered to know what day it is so he can weight in whenever, but it still only counts on Friday
Goal 195
at my largest 278

Edit: 195 is too light and causes joint pain
Increasing goal to 200

Edit: there’s a history of heart problems in my family and at 50 I’ve started keeping an eye on it. The Cardiologist has my weight goal at 215. 10 pounds up from where I was at the visit.

Edit 1/22. New cardiologist says old cardiologist is an idiot. All numbers still good but weight goal is now 195.

Edit 10/22 The New cardiologist is a jerk. now the goal is 190.
I said “stop moving the goalposts.

Edit: 7/23 192 hurts my joints. Going back up to 205-10. (54 years old)

I lost 40lbs without exercise simply by eliminating soda and tea and drinking 1.5 gallons of water a day for 3 months, drinking a pint of whole milk for breakfast and a pint for lunch and eating a moderate dinner before 7 pm

Thats awesome. Think more people would be successful if they just did the small things like drink water instead of soda & tea.

That sucks. You swim or bike?

Kidding about the 6'6.
I'm not a strong swimmer. Got a pool but its closed during the winter. Friends have started biking and trying to get me going. I just miss playing ball. I'm 41 and played baseball, basketball and flag until 3 years ago. My bad leg won't allow it anymore.
I just can't believe the expense of these bikes. Buddy just spent $3500.

This is big for me. last January I got up to 250. by august I was down to 210. Stayed on the same diet but started drinking sweet tea and soda again and I got back up to 235. Started P90X 2 weeks ago to mix up the workout and quit the tea and soda (no other changes) and I've dropped 10 lbs.

I got a really good Trek for about 500$ It's worth it to have a good bike even if you go used like I did.

Can I weigh in with my surgical boots on to begin with? I think I've gained agbout 5lb since my sirgeries. I would like to drop about 10/15lbs once I am able to start working out again.

I started Jan. 1 2011 and decided to lose weight and get healthier. Started out 6'1 and 248 lbs. One year later on Jan. 1 2012 I am down to 193 lbs. I changed what I ate and started running and doing push ups and sit ups four to five times a week. I feel better now than I did in high school. I am going to continue this diet and work out program. I am going to start training for my first half marathon. So good luck to the OP. It can be done!!

Dont spend a lot on your first bike. You can buy a nice starter bike for $800-1000 new or 1/2 that on ebay/craigslist. Then you can slowly upgrade the components. If you buy things on sale, in a couple of years you can have a $3500 that cost much less.

Nice work. You should post your runs in the runners thread.

I was up to almost 170. I cut out coke, drank more water. oatmeal for breakfast. lean cuisine or salad for lunch. dinner was flexible - i normally eat healthy then anyway (i.e. fish, rice, veggies). Now I'm down to 155. I'd like to lose about 5lb of fat and put on some more muscle. After the holidays, I think I might be around 157.

That's awesome. Way to bust it. I've never really been overweight, but have much respect for those that have battled it and dropped weight. I just want to tighten up. I'll let myself gain a few, but can drop a few in a couple of days. The 1-2 inches of fat below my belly button and around my torso is pissing me off.

I'm more worried about wrecking than anything. My best bud started biking last year and had the bike fly out from under while going over some type of bridge. Messed up his arm and face. That would happen to me.
