Frustration over $18 million taken from academics ?

Lol. More people thinking they are entitled to money that most universities athletic departments do not pump into academics. Wonder what the total would be if the athletic department's revenue was kept completely separate from revenue generated from academics over the last 10 years?

Dont bite the hand that feeds you comes to mind.

Also, it takes money to make money. The more success athletics experiences means more money for academics.

I just wonder how many MILLIONS the Athletic Department has DONATED over the years and never asked for anything in return.

You do know that we only have college football teams because of the academic side, right? The schools would still be there without a football team. The opposite cannot be said...

These idiots are not smart enough to go back and look at the checks they were receiving from the athletic department when the football program was successful. We were giving around $10 mil per year to academics back then. But when you are against capitalism the economic opportunities for everyone falters. I can not wait to hear them moaning with their allotment when we hire a bad coach and the football program continues to struggle.

They will then just state this as a cause to institute a state income tax to go along with the billions they get now from the lottery.

That rascal has it backwards. The athletic department is being 'taken' by the academic side. Academics shouldn't receive a dime from athletics.

Beauvais Lyons quote: "Our Athletics Department, which has a large donor base and significant revenue potential, has financially contributed to the academic side of the ledger for a number of years, and should be expected to do so."

Hmmmm. Okay.

I am an alumni to a different school than UT. I make small donations to that school each year. When I donate my season tix money to UT I am donating to athletics. Call me bad but I don't care about UT academics. I am giving money to support the football team.

You guys need to read the article, academic side has helped fund tons of stuff on the athletic side!

To say anything besides that just shows how little you know about the school.

Read the article, and it is one butthurt faculty member making that comment. Doesn't make it so.

What was that quote I saw yesterday?

"Just because you see something on the internet in quotations doesn't make it true"-Abraham Lincoln

And by the way, seeing as though you are implying that you know 'more' about the school than the rest of us how about citing examples as opposed to making a blanket statement with no backup.

Coaching terminations. Stadiums, athletic upgrades, academic support, tutors...

They help Athletics a lot, Athletics helps them, they go hand in hand. But they are right, coaches salaries and buyouts are getting out of hand.

For us to get rid of Dooleys staff is going to cost 7-9 Mil over 3 years. Hiring a new coach 9-12 mil a year (if it's Gruden)

Every large athletic dept gives lots back to the academic side.

Here's the thing, would they rather lose out on this money now or have the pool dry up completely if the football program goes under? I know it looks bad on the surface, but the downward spiral of the football program and the financial crisis in the athletic department is a gushing flesh wound to the arm of the university that has got to be treated before the university as whole bleeds out and dies a slow agonizing death.
