FSU to B1G rumors starting again

Most FSU fans probably aren’t old enough to remember an 11-1 FSU team getting into the National Championship game over a much better/deserving undefeated WVU team in 1993.

They also probably don’t remember how the media kept FSU relevant during the early BCS years when the ACC was laughably bad, and FSU was getting rolled in bowls games by every school not named Virginia Tech

Parallels don't stop there.

WVU got blown out by ND in the NC bowl game in the late 80s. There was concern about putting WVU in that situation again so soon, so FSU got the nod

This year, bad loss by TCU last year and a hampered FSU team without a QB looking for a playoff birth. They got screwed a little bit sure, but that's life.

Over the course of time, things usually end up at about even

Also, BTW-FSU lost exactly two bowl games in the 90s after joining the ACC. They got beat by Florida once and I'm sure you can figure out the other one

Let's take FSU and Clemson and the Vols are sure to get into the playoff once every 25 years.

Who came up with the idiotic idea of a 12-team playoff when 8 should be the absolute max number and the logic number for expansion? You have
to award byes to make 12 work. I'm quickly coming to hate college football--it's just commercial trash now.

And yet you'll keep watching.

Not saying I agree or disagree with this, but I've seen variations posted on what a 28-team mega conference would look like. Thoughts?

SEC West: Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Texas, Texas A&M

SEC North: Louisville, Kentucky, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech

SEC East: Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina St., South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech

SEC South: Florida, Florida St., Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St.
28 teams is ridiculous

Florida waxed that West Virginia team
41-7 in the Sugar Bowl and FSU would’ve done the same

Florida State was 8-2 in bowl games during the 90s.

What was Florida State’s bowl game record in the early BCS Era (began in 1998), as referenced in my original post?
looks like its 50/50

they played in three national title games in a row. hard to argue they suck if they made the NC.
overall they were....drumroll..... 2 & 2 in the BCS national title game

What’s your definition of early BCS? I don’t remember the media trying to keep them “relevant.” They pretty much fell off the face of the earth the last 4 years of Bowden’s career and were considered an afterthought on the national stage.

We'd still find a way to lose to Florida every year...

I’d say the first 8 years of the BCS (98-06), which 06 was about the time FSU started trailing off. They were 1-5 in BCS Bowls during that time. I remember one of the biggest factors of the BCS was polls (AP, Coaches, maybe another, but I think Coaches asked to be removed at some point). I also remember FSU being a media darling in those days. They always seemed to be the ESPN Saturday night game, even with the ACC being non competitive.

Early BCS Era, as stated in my original post and in the message you quoted.

FSU played in 6 of the first 8 BCS bowl games, and their record was 1-5.

And yet you'll keep watching.

I don't watch--that's the thing. I follow, but much more casually than I used to. This new era of coddling and kowtowing to student-athletes--football, mainly--and pretending they're put upon when they're all getting a free college education that every other student in America would kill for is rather nauseating. I was a student-athlete at UT (not football), as was my father, and I never felt put upon; in fact, I and my player friends were quite aware of how privileged we were.

Yeah, because if you weren't a football player you were privileged. your scholarship was paid for by the football team, and you probably didn't have much of a free market value to fight for. you would probably feel a lot different if everyone else involved was making millions if not billions while you got nothing.

The fact that the scholarship wasn't covering the value of players has been true for decades. You're not naive. You KNOW some players were getting paid + their scholarships for years, so it's obvious your "the scholarship is enough" argument has been BS for 30+ years.

Boosters paid players forever, despite their scholarships, to play. So how is it enough NOW to just have the scholarship. Pure BS.

Of course they want to be here. It's about money. Vandy is making more then they are. Money is all that drives this stuff.
There’s a reason they have been linked to every other conference besides the SEC, they are scared of the competition. They have literally admitted to that, on the record. Big 10, Big 12, Pac whatever, they are all easier conferences top to bottom than the SEC.

And they are scared
