FSU to B1G rumors starting again

There’s a reason they have been linked to every other conference besides the SEC, they are scared of the competition. They have literally admitted to that, on the record. Big 10, Big 12, Pac whatever, they are all easier conferences top to bottom than the SEC.

And they are scared
I assume what you are referencing is why they picked the ACC DECADES ago. They want out of the abortion of a tv deal the ACC agreed to. They want the money. Just like every other school. The finances today, and how they are made., is completely different then when they joined the ACC decades ago.

Then why have they not been linked to the SEC?

They have been linked to EVERY other conference. I don’t understand why you’re defending this. The SEC is tougher, they know it’s tougher, they’d prefer to be in an easier conference so they can make the playoffs

2017 UCF was undefeated with almost exactly the same SOS as FSU this year. Nobody complained about it other than UCF fans. In fact, everybody was screaming they didn't play anybody so they shouldn't be in. Who you play has to matter to a large degree or you better be blowing everyone you play out like clemson was doing

I’ve been saying this all along, if FSU fans want to be mad, be mad at your own conference for being even more down than usual. There were no divisions in the ACC this season. The best 2 teams played in Charlotte. Just so happens that the second best ACC team lost to… checks notes… Kentucky at home in the last regular season game of the year. Louisville royally screwed FSU as much as anyone else.

FSU tried to get in the AAU and didn't make it.

The B1G really likes AAU academics credibility and FSU took a swing and a miss on measuring up.

Yeah but I think B1G uses Academics as a method to polite weed out people they really don't want anyways. They have been shown (in the case of Notre Dame) that they would forego AAU to let schools in. I really think if FSU drew enough $$$$ to the B1G, they would get in regardless of AAU.

B1G was willing to take Oklahoma if Texas came along as another example and Oklahoma was not AAU.

If Academics was that big a deal, B1G would have pounced on Cal and Stanford. They are two of the best schools in Academics historically. (I am not a fan of modern academic rankings as I think it has gotten politicized).

Agreed. They use the AAU for insisting they're still all about academics, not sports like the SEC.

To be sure, there are good schools in the B1G but if college football survives much longer they'll need to come off the boasting about "academics is our priority."

Run a 4.44 40 as a WR tOSU recruit and they'll find a way to get you past admissions.

My guess is that the Big10 has several other schools higher priority than FSU. Notre Dame and UNC come to mind. Both are in the AAU now. The conference also need to absorb 4 new schools and they probably need to see how that goes first.

It makes more sense for FSU to work with the other ACC schools and try to get enough other schools to depart at the same time so that the financial penalty isn’t extreme. Threats to leave the ACC by themselves just pisses off the other schools.

I agree. I think at the time they believed the money generated by the conferences would be very comparable, and given the choice they'd rather be in the conference that gave them a better chance at winning titles.

I don't watch--that's the thing. I follow, but much more casually than I used to. This new era of coddling and kowtowing to student-athletes--football, mainly--and pretending they're put upon when they're all getting a free college education that every other student in America would kill for is rather nauseating. I was a student-athlete at UT (not football), as was my father, and I never felt put upon; in fact, I and my player friends were quite aware of how privileged we were.

Let's take FSU and Clemson and the Vols are sure to get into the playoff once every 25 years.

Who came up with the idiotic idea of a 12-team playoff when 8 should be the absolute max number and the logic number for expansion? You have
to award byes to make 12 work. I'm quickly coming to hate college football--it's just commercial trash now.
Finally! you post something that is sane.
