Very good post Gramps. I think it was time for a change also. I would however made sure that they had a replacement in mind of a coach as good as or better than CPF. I think he should have at least not been canned in the middle of the year. Seriously, good post though.

P.S. - Off the subject on Thursday May 31st, 2012, I became a "Gramps" too. She will be a UT cheerleader in or around 2030.

^This and congratulations.

It is equally funny how random internet guy (with no connection to the football world, in particular or in general) believes in his OPINION so much that he begins to think it is a proven fact. Then he begins to purport this 'opinion' as some sort of truth. This affliction is running rampant on VN. Time for a check-up folks.

Pot, meet Kettle....Kettle, meet Pot.

"at no point in Fulmers career did he have to do a total rebuild at every position for players and depth"

This isn't an opinion. It's pure fact. When he got the job, the program was loaded with talent and depth. Another fact. Dooley didn't have the players or the depth even remotely close to the parking lot of the ballpark of the team Phillip inherited

Therefore he gets a pass for losing to KY. And not making second half adjustments.

I don't think anyone is giving him a pass for KY. I'm certainly not. But, the fact still remains, he didn't play. I don't see ANYONE giving him credit for the D holding them to 10 (and arguably) 3 points. I don't think that ANY of the coaches expected TB and Da to mail it in like they did.

For the Fulmer folks in this thread who claim to be so smart when it comes to "football", there sure is a lot of blind eyes up in here. No one is giving DD a free pass for the KY loss just like no one should give Phil a pass for Wyoming or Memphis or Vandy. But the blind eyes fail to acknowledge the status of the roster in 2010 when DD took over, complete shambles with very little to work with and depth, well it doesn't take a genius to figure out we have not had SEC talent on the lines and the skilled positions in 5 years. We have a piece here or a piece there but never across the board.

Johnny Majors has always reiterated how defensive coordinator and his former player John Chavis saved Fulmer’s butt. I have to disagree with him. Chavis was here in 2008 the Vols were 5-7. If anyone saved his butt………………………………

In 2007, overall 10-4 and 6-2 East Division champs finish AP 12 and beat Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl. They won the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference before falling to the eventual national champion LSU Tigers in the SEC Championship Game.. The 2007 season was the last at Tennessee for four assistants on the staff. Offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe left to be head coach at Duke, taking assistants Matt Luke and Kurt Roper with him, while wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor accepted a co-offensive coordinator's position at Oklahoma State.

We had a top 10 defense in 2008 despite losing 7 games. Try again bro.

He always talks about Coach Chavis saving Fulmer's butt when in fact Chavis was here when we were 5-7 in 2008. When Cutcliffe left in 2007 , we were ranked AP 12 season. 10-4 overall. 6-2 East Division Champs. Beat Wisconsin in the Out back Bowl.It was Cutcliffe that saved Coach Fulmer Mr. Majors not Chavis.

Hey Volfances. Some people can't leave well enough along.... lol

When is that grandbaby due?

Let's set the scene. My daughter has twins, boy and girl. Holly Warlick picks my grandaughter for point guard and CPF comes out of retirement (do not do the math)and picks my grandson for QB. I will invite you my private seats for a game!!!! lol

I am getting CPF debate fatigue.

Fulmer hired Clawson, and our offense was responsible for 7 losses, despite one of our better defenses in recent memory. Chavis most definetly saved Fulmer's ass. More than once.

It's pretty much common knowledge that Cutcliffe helped Fulmer more than any other assistant... not named Randy Sanders

So true, the awfulfense is a disgusting part of UT history... I hate to be this shallow, but I hope it haunts dave clawson for years to come.
