Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

I am afraid not. The obese jokes are the most disrespectful.

I disagree. Although i don't personally try to poke fun at a person't weight, jokes aimed towards a disability that one cannot help are the most disrespectful.

If someone wants to let their body get to an obese state, then they need to be prepared to face rude comments. They lived a lifestyle contributing to their own obesity. If they don't like it, then diet and exercise (or in extreme cases, medication)!

Bottom line (and this is what it ALL boils down to) is after the blow-out loss to Miami in 02 attendence dwindled at games. Not only were the cup cake games not attended but even major SEC games such as the 03 Georgia blow-out had many, again, MANY empty seats! That meant revenue was down not just for games but also in royalties derived from merchandise. FULMER WAS BEING OVER PAID BECAUSE HE WAS NO LONGER DELIVERING A PRODUCT WORTH THE INVESTMENT. How many of you attended games after the start of the 02 season and witnessed first hand the decline in attendence? Would you waste your disposable income on a worthless product or on something you felt was giving you your moneys worth?

Fulmer or really anyone needs to have thick skin. That was not the point. The point was, without provocation, a person saw fit to make an unwarranted "comment". The point was, what a jackwad you must be to assail people needlessly. Guess you missed it.

Attendance dwindled after losing to a team that actually won the Crystal Ball (referee's blew it) who was in the midst of a hellacious winning streak? People quit coming to the games after that? What are the numbers on the attendance drop after 02?

IS THE FDE thread fading away. Have all the Anti-CPFers finally came to thier senses and realized what a catastrophic mistake it was firing a proven winner was?

A proven winner?

Fulmer's last 4 years of coaching his overall record was 29-21and 17-15 in the SEC.

That is a real winner.

152-52 Proof enough Gramps.

Just think about it BO1
152- 52 Over 17 years . That is great

29-21 over 4 years is average at best.

Fulmer coached for 17 years with 40% of his loses being in 4 years, his last 4.

For 13 years Fulmer averaged 1.6 loses per year that is great.

Fulmer last 4 years he averaged 5.25 loses per year.

Do you see a pattern?

Do you call a football coach that averages 5.25 loses per year great?

Fulmer was very good for several years.

How many more years would he have needed to get back on top? Does Dooley need to be around 'til 2020 so he can get a fair shot at winning the SEC?

Very good post Gramps. I think it was time for a change also. I would however made sure that they had a replacement in mind of a coach as good as or better than CPF. I think he should have at least not been canned in the middle of the year. Seriously, good post though.

P.S. - Off the subject on Thursday May 31st, 2012, I became a "Gramps" too. She will be a UT cheerleader in or around 2030.

I think with the talent Dooley has recruited and with staff upgrade 2013 TN wins the east. I think TN will be a surprise. team this year and finish in top 25.

The term proven winner would indicate there being proof of winning. In the case of CPF, proof is evident. Fulmer's first 5 years of coaching his overall record was....... and...... in the SEC. Funny how 'we' keep taking out the good, accenting the bad, and then determine that Fulmer was doomed to never win again. --- That is a real loser.

How funny people are comparing Dooley to Fulmer in this thread, at no point in Fulmers career did he have to do a total rebuild at every position for players and depth. Phil was able to keep bodies coming in to fill the gaps. The problem with the last 8 years of Phils recruiting was the bodies he was bringing in were not as talented as what he previously was able to bring in. Once the downward spiral in talent began to surface, the days of Phil was numbered, upon his departure the Kiffin regime ran off some people that we could have used for depth. Once Dooley arrived the roster, the talent left on the roster and the depth of the roster was in shambles. Add on top of that the class that Kiff signed and how many of them still left with the team and it is not rocket science as to why we have struggled.

It is equally funny how random internet guy (with no connection to the football world, in particular or in general) believes in his OPINION so much that he begins to think it is a proven fact. Then he begins to purport this 'opinion' as some sort of truth. This affliction is running rampant on VN. Time for a check-up folks.

Have you ever met Phil? and I do not mean at a football function. I have a dear friend who use to be Phils neighbor in Maryville and Phil would come over from time to time. I have sat down with Phil and spoke 1 on 1 and even though its my "opinion" as to the status of our current program, it doesn't take much common sense to piece the puzzle together as to why we have struggled these past 3 years.

Without talent and depth no football team will ever see success.
