And a fan base that would appreciate him.

Initially they would, and his age in that instance might be a plus, as he probably wouldn't coach but a few years because of that. And salary shouldn't matter all that much at this stage of his life, considering the lucre he got from UT over the years and the buyout/payout as well. Have to wait though and see if he might be pulling a Gruden on the Bucs, and whether he is really serious or not, or just wants to help out a bit.

I remember when Majors was recognized for being inducted into the HOF at half time of one of the games years ago. The Sentinel and Tennessean interviewed several fans and the theme from most was Majors built the program and Fulmer took it to a higher level. Then, in 95 or 96 Majors was interviewed and he said if he was still coaching he would have won a NC. Now, who really knows if he would have.. One thing we do know for sure is he was one year removed from back to back SEC (CHAMPIONSHIPS). Not SEC games! We also know when he was fired he left talent that transcended the program onto the next level. Not DISASTEROUS levels of loosing! I'm sure Fulmer has taken solice in the fact that the program is on hard times but I wonder if he is aware he drove it here?

It's the SOS. Who recruited the talent the Majors left behind? That's right Fulmer. I love it when the haters talk about all this talent that was left to CPF. He brought it here.

I posted this a few times within threads but it keeps coming up.

I can't imagine how many times I've read that it's been 10 years since Fulmer won an SEC Championship. That's referring to the 1998 season. But, since the Vols have only played 9 seasons, it would be fair if you critics would stick to the facts.

There's no need to give up on the 2008 Vols before the season ever starts. And, if for some reason, we don't win the SEC this season, are you going to say it's been 11 years next year... and just keep being wrong until we win it again?

Please kindly adhere to the facts. Just to help with the math, here's how to count them.

1) 2007 (that's the last season played)
2) 2006
3) 2005
4) 2004
5) 2003
6) 2002
7) 2001
8) 2000
9) 1999 (this was the 1st season after the Vols won the national championship)

Fire away... 3 embarassing loses in 2007; can't forget 2005; and so on.

The 2008 team is about to reset the clock, so remember to tell your grandkids, there were only 9 years between championships and not 10... and it was not 41 years.. that was basketball.

Get ready to update this photo in 2008! Go Vols!

So now 14 years not 15...

I do know that if Phil hadn't been forced out, we wouldn't be in this 200 million debt crisis. It may not be a crisis to us folks and Hart and Co. may act like its not, but when your in debt by a couple hundred million, its a big deal.

Maybe not 200 million but there would have been a debt crisis whether or not he remained. Recruiting had suffered and fans were getting restless, which would have translated to attendance problems and season ticket renewals. So, the buyouts/payouts contributed immensely to the debt problem, but debt problems would have been there anyway.

Technically recruiting was on its way back up. Yes that last class busted but the coach that recruited them, didnt coach them. That had a direct impact on how that class turned out.

One of PF's last classes was ranked 35th, it might have been his last full recruiting class, don't have the exact info handy. If so, a 35th ranked class could be coached by almost anyone, with no impact on how it turns out, except that it wouldn't be very competitive in the SEC.

That class (his lowest ranked recruiting class ever, so hardly a measurement) still produced more all-conference/NFL-caliber players than Kiffin's 2009 class.

Was that the same Johnny Majors who was mostly terrible for 12 years at the helm in a mostly weak SEC from 1977-1988? Was the same Johnny Majors who was so awful at Pitt in the mid-90's, they disappeared from national relevance for a decade?
