Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

Couple things about Fulmer:

The fact that Big Daddy on the Hill responded, publically, in the News Sentinel nonetheless to John Adams tells me Phil's worried.

Losses to Florida and Alabama, in the same nature that we lost last year, the man is canned, easy.

It makes me sick that Fulmer is still here. He just keeps hanging on to the fact that he won the national championship in 98. If he really cared about our university then he would retire, because he gets outcoached every single game.

Bruce Pearl has exactly as many SEC championships in 3 years in his sport as Fulmer has in 15 in his sport.

Really? I thought Fulmer had 2 SEC titles ('97, '98)? Also, if you're just going to count reg season (which is what Pearl had), then Fulmer would have 3 ('01). Not saying Fulmer is a great and wonderful coach, just correcting the record.

sorry, you're right. I don't know how I forgot 97.

why? A coach should be accountable at all times. Being in the midst of the season doesn't give him some free pass just because we don't want to hurt the poor guy's feelings.

A coaching change will not happen in Knoxville during the season. Fulmer's employment at UT is secured at this point until November 29 at roughly 3:30 eastern time. No level of ranting or raving will change that.

And it's not about the coaches "feelings" at all. It's about the team at this point. And CPF is the coach of this team. Hamilton will not make a mid-season coaching change by choice.

sophomoric

At least you didn't leave out 1998. A lot of folks like to start and end the CPF debate with 2005. That was the year in which the gap between expectations and performance absolutely topped off.

And the 2001 team was every bit as excellent on the gridiron during the regular season as was this year's basketball team on the court. I've already noted that the 2007 team finished the season about the same national rank (12th) as did the best basketball season in 41 years.

Excellent points... OldBlood. You probably even remember life as a Vols fan before Fulmer.

We haven't dominated the SEC since Neyland (I missed him unfortunately). It was bammer (Bear) then UF (during the Spurrier years). The rest of us just wish we had.

You've got to be kidding! Look at the record in the best conf in the NCAA! He wins and does a great job. Lay off the man! Name me ONE coach UT could get that would be better ???!!! No pipe dreams, REAL options!

If you can do that, I will admit I'm wrong!

When we do go after a new coach his coaching ability during the game should be important. We have certainly lacked the ability to adapt under Fulmer. Recruiting should be second IMO. That being said I'm not sure who would be an upgrade as far as coaches go.

He coaches based on his personel. Not since Shuler (maybe Tee) have they had a QB that could make ANY plays with his legs.

good rbs, great defences (except 2 years) and a solid kicking game! A mobile QB is what UT needs. Fulmer has done a great job! Knoxville is not easy to recruit players to. UT is lucky to have the winning % that they have. Tennessee does not have the high school horses to compete with Fla, Tx, La, Ga, Cal, or Ohio. It has to be national recruiting. That is VERY hard to do on a consistant basis!

gameday coaching is still very important. Every coach who is successful uses his personel to their style. What I mean is Fulmer does not adapt well during the game. That is very important when the game does not go to your plans. That being said I think Fulmer is a good coach, just not a great one.

Some may disagree, but I'd say Mark Richt is the worst game day coach in the SEC.

Ok ...I get that! But........who could UT get/have that would be better????

Stoops (no), Spurrier (no), Richt (no), Carroll (no), Tressell (no), Petrino (no), Tuberville (no), Saben (GOD NO).......... name one!?

Stability is important at the top. I will be interested in seeing how the staff moves during the off season work out! To me...that is HUGE! Fulmers only flaw is too much loyalty!

Too much loyalty and not a good gameday coach.

Winning % says alot! He is NOT Bear Bryant, but he's very good! 98% of the teams in NCAA would LOVE to have UT's last 14 years!
