so you will concede that no SEC championships since 1998 is unacceptable?

I've never said those expecations are unrealistic. So, yes the results fail to meet expectations.

What I have said is that the difference between most Fulmerites and the NegaVols lies in the notion that we still think Fulmer can get the job done.

It's about alternatives for HFC... and, at this stage, Fulmerites see CPF as the best one that we have.

Are you?

Keep in mind that unacceptable means you will not accept the results. And by supporting the team, are you not passively supporting the results?

Winning the National Championship is a function of superior performance on the field as well as luck. Sometimes an undefeated team is left out of the mix (see Auburn 2004). Usually, someone is left out in the cold when the formula designates one of a handful of 1 or 2 loss teams as the chosen one. Winning your own conference is the one thing that every school can absolutely control. 1998 was great but nobody can really expect a national championship. Exepcting to win the conference more than once every 9 or 10 years, however, is not an unrealistic expectation.
That was nice 'Billy...

that's all I was getting at.

I will support our boys year in and year out, you can't blame players for being consistently out-coached.

So you're saying we were outcoached last December 1st in the SEC championship game? From my point of view in the dome it looked like the coaches had the team in a position to win a game no one gave them chance to win. Execution cost us that one.

They win as a team and lose as a team.

I think everyone continues supporting the team because we're fans and the Vols are a part of how we identify ourselves. However, I think our recourse is limited beyond doing what we can to ask for change at the helm without actually harming the football program.

We're not on some public campaign to rid ourselves of the coach because that is destructive. We're simply voicing that we want Fulmer gone because his performane has been unacceptable relative to our expectations.

There were plenty of examples of terrible coaching in that game. The G-gun debacle stands out.

That's fine. And I have no problem with anyone that wants to go on a message board, public stage, or any other type campaign to remove CPF - beginning at the end of the season until the start of spring practice.

But once the season starts, to rail on the coach and demand change is wasting bandwidth and not productive at all.

why? A coach should be accountable at all times. Being in the midst of the season doesn't give him some free pass just because we don't want to hurt the poor guy's feelings.

I only recall the g-gun getting about 10 yards a clip in that game? I may be blocking something out...

Three straight runs from the G-gun in the course of what was a promising drive. A chance to take complete control of the game.

Maybe I am wrong on my G-gun thing, but I am pretty sure he handed off three times and it stalled a drive.

Check that, he handed off twice and we were forced into a third and long. Lincoln missed a field goal after an incomplete third down pass.

Also, it would have given us a chance for the lead had we scored a touchdown on the drive, not complete control as I earlier stated.

Gerald didn't run enough. He averaged what 20 yards a carry?

I'm wrong all over the place, Crompton came in on 1st down for a play, Ainge was promptly inserted and we scored. I guess I have the better part of that game blocked from my memory

Yep, which kind of had me questioning the hand-offs. I guess he made the wrong read twice, still it was completely stupid to continue with that formation after it failed on first down.

Summary of debate:

Sane Discussions
Fulmerite: CPF is our coach and I'll support him and the team when they take the field.
Negavol: CPF hasn't won a championship in a decade so he needs to be replaced.

Insane Claptrap
Blind Fulmer Follower: CPF is great. I love him.
Blind Fulmer Basher: Fat joke. Fire Fulmer. Fat Joke.

Move on people, nothing more to add here.

are there any pictures of Fulmer laying across the laps of three coeds?

Yes, together with photos of the squashed bodies of the three coeds being rushed to the ER.

Made me laugh. Pictured the cop in South Park saying that.
