the simple fact is that if he was fired today you can't get a better total coach for the program than Phil. Wins an average of 10 games a year, almost won more games than the General, great recruiter, great community member and great emphasizer of academics.

If you want Phil gone now, youre not very educated.

:blink::crazy:

Who are you going to hire right this second who is gonna win an SECT this year? Go ahead. I'm dying to hear your answer.

That boring fellow from Oklahoma State went to LSU and hasn't done too bad for them.

Lord I hope not. He's lived off the work of Saban, Pelini, and Fisher. Let's see how he is on his own.

The one coach I believe would recruit as well as Fulmer plus develop players, do game week prep, and coach gameday equal to or better than Fulmer is Dan Hawkins.

He built Boise St from next to nothing and is in the process of resurrecting Colorado.

The only thing I care about is championships and Fulmer has not produced any type of championship in the last ten years. So if you want to keep Phil your the one who is not very educated.

The boards have been hot today with details of Fulmer's contract extension and pay raise. After pages worth of debate, the census seems to be that Fulmer doesn't deserve such increases. Many think Phil's lucky to even have a job.

So being the Fulmer supporter that I am, I am interested in who you think should be the coach of your Tennessee Vols. I want us to break from complaining about how bad it is, and come up with a realistic list of solutions.

So for the sake of the thread, lets pretend Fulmer held a press conference after the SEC championship loss to LSU(2007) that he would be retiring after the bowl game.

Who would you hope to be the next coach of UT?
Rules:
Which of the available coaches would we want, and which coaches at other schools could we realistically lure away? Or would we give Cut a shot? You decide.

:censored: Cutcliffe! :realmad:

what has he done against SEC coaching competition

Nothing. Like I said, he just took Boise St and turned them into a BCS team capable of beating OU. He took over an awful situation in Boulder and has them moving in the right direction. This year was their first top 25 recruiting class since 2003.

You probably can't replace Fulmer with another SEC coach that you'd want except maybe Tuberville.

The Oregon Coach Belotti might be another interesting option.

May not get anybody better... but I guarantee you that out of about 120 Division I coaches and twice that number of offensive and defensive coordinators, you could find about 100 out of those 360 or so guys that could win 9 games a year at Tennessee and lose to Bama and Florida by 3 touchdowns...

It is about the state of the program. And I guess we will just have to be happy with a trip to Atlanta every 3rd year.

Hey Dawgs and Gators, we would appreciate a couple of post cards from your BCS bowl games in January.

Thankfully, I am old enough to remember the last time we went to a BCS bowl.

I seriously doubt that. Meyer is averaging under 10 wins in his first 3 years in a state with incredible talent, Miami/FSU down, and while inheriting a full cupboard. I think you are seriously underestimating what it takes to coach at the level CPF has UT at. The great state of Tenn simply does not produce great HSFB talent right now.

There are some guys out there that might could do it better. There aren't nearly 100 out of the group you mentioned... maybe 10-15... and the chances of finding one and then having him survive to make his transition is next to nil.

So our next coach needs to go out and get guys like Latrell Scott and Stan Drayton.

Also, 31/3 > 10.

Phil Fulmer over the same period: 24/3 = 8.

Ok... so 100 wouldn't win 9 games a year. I still think you could find 100 that could lose to Florida and Bama by 3 touchdowns...
