"@Riley_Blevins: Phillip Fulmer spoke to a UT class today & was asked about Butch's recruiting class. His response: 'He doesn't have enough linemen."

Saw this tweet today. Thought it was interesting.. And might be true.

Considering Fulmer's piss poor recruiting cost him his job and is ultimately responsible for our downward spiral, he's really not in a position to criticize.

That said, he also told Clay Travis we didn't have enough linemen before we got Barnett, Blair, and Hendrix.

Well I'm glad Fulmer is paying attention to Butch's recruiting---that painstaking attention to detail might have helped him his last few years here.

Fulmer did such a great job recruiting linemen that the year after he was fired, Kiffin had to start walk on linemen. If he had done his job the state of the program would never be in this bad of shape.

He couldn't have said that with a straight face.

I'll never forget when Kiffin got the job and commented that we had gone like 2 years without signing quality linemen . . . hence, the Sullins twins playing o-line in the SEC at 265lbs.

His recruiting was actually very good. It was player development that got him. He tended to turn a 5* into a 3*. :eek:hmy:

Really? Because before its all over 1/3 or more of our class will be linemen. Shut up, Phil.

Nb4 we get the montage of great linemen who played under Fulmer....98% of whom graduated before 2003 :)

We currently have 1 projected DT. (There are some DE tweeners that could play DT) but Lambert is the only current true DT committed.. I feel like we could use 1 or 2 more. But other than that, offensive line and defensive like class looks solid.

Historically, UT has been fine signing solid OL from the state. This is one area where I think it is nearly impossible to project…with the exception of a tackle like Tiny.

In reality, we have holes all over the place, but it is much better to have two deep with SEC athletes in the skill positions than it is to have an all world O line.

It is much easier to produce a serviceable offensive line than it is to teach someone to run faster.

It seems like they definitely want one true DT, but I also think this staff wants a smaller faster DL. (Smaller means someone that plays DT at 285 or 290 rather than 310.)

I know Fulmer loves UT, but I personally think it's going to pain him a bit to watch CBJ be successful. Just from interviews I've read/seen with him since 2008, he still seems very sensitive about getting fired and feels like he deserved more time, or even the rest of his life, to coach the Vols.

The ego of a head coach who won a NC is still intact.

2013 has taught us this lesson loud and clear

He's right in the sense that we haven't secured the number of DT's that we want....but the problem is, we are working on it. If we end up not signing another DL, then Fulmer's statement is correct.
