Fulmer on 14 class "Not enough linemen"

"@Riley_Blevins: Phillip Fulmer spoke to a UT class today & was asked about Butch's recruiting class. His response: 'He doesn't have enough linemen."

Saw this tweet today. Thought it was interesting.. And might be true.

I would bet Butch would agree with him. Fulmer should be an expert on this. He sure didn't leave Kiffin and Dooley a boat load of linemen.

Given the fact that he is an old offensive lineman and Fulmer's relationship with Butch, my guess is that this was a little tongue and cheek as well.

According to the movies, all Phil had to do was show up and recruits would just get in the car.

His recruiting was actually very good. It was player development that got him. He tended to turn a 5* into a 3*. :eek:hmy:

Also, look at the players that left program in Fulmers last five or six seasons.

He was being out recruited by other S.E.C. schools and he had no margin for error. Then some of his players left the program or they didn't develope.

Wow, Fulmer is brilliant isn't he? If not for Phil, Butch Jones might have forgotten to recruit linemen.

Its amazing how nobody here understands sarcasm/tongue in cheek comments. Lets rail the guy who won 100+ games for making a joke a reporter took out of context!

Considering Fulmer's piss poor recruiting cost him his job and is ultimately responsible for our downward spiral, he's really not in a position to criticize.

That said, he also told Clay Travis we didn't have enough linemen before we got Barnett, Blair, and Hendrix.

Don't be so unkind. Fulmer is an expert at not recruiting enough quality linemen. He knows exactly what he's talking about on that subject.:whistling:

I still would have rather had Fulmer than suffering through Lame and Dooley.

You would rather have the disease rather than trying two cures that didn't work?

You can honor Fulmer for the great things he accomplished over his first 8 years or so... and STILL recognize that his decline is the primary reason UT's program is where it is now.

His "great" line recruiting left Kiffin to start the Sullins bros and have only ONE real DT on the roster.

His recruiting was actually very, very bad- I would call it awful the last 4 years - particularly with linemen. It was player development that got him. He tended to turn a 5* into a 3*. :eek:hmy:

Fixed your comment for you - he wasn't that great at development either but his recruiting was not up to SEC standards and it ultimately cost him his job. Cutcliff leaving every 3 years and taking the offensive staff with him didn't do Fulmer any favors either. Overall recruiting was lower half of SEC and the recruiting of linemen
may have been in the bottom 3 of the conference imo.

I think he's right about not having enough lineman in the upcoming class. That being said, he should be the last person to critique, considering it was under his watch that a once proud program, started the decline we are still in years after his dismissal.

There will be plenty of lineman in this class. Maybe as many as 11.
