I said it takes more than the win loss record to be a great coach. My original post I was putting Pat Summitt in the same group as
Knute Rockne and John Wooden. IMO those 3 coaches are the premire coaches of their sport.

Are you saying Fulmer should be listed in the same class as Summitt?

way to twist a question...just list your coaches with a 75% winning percentage, who aren't Great

Fulmer is not a great coach imo .

1. The way he became HC is in question.
There is and will remain the questiion of "Fulmer stabbing. Majors in the back" to get the job.

2. What percent of his student athletes graduated?

3. What is Fulme's record on despiline?

4. After winning the NC did Fulmer continue the same work ethic ?

5. What was the state of the program when he left?

Take off the Fulmer glasses and answer honestly.

twisting it around again...
Fulmer is a great coach, and his record and accomplishment support it..

who else is on your list of not great coaches who have a 75% winning percentage, Conference Championships, and a National Championship...

You refuse to accept the facts.

Again my original post had zero to do with Fulmer. i was listing Pat as an elite coach in the same class a Rockney and Wooden..

If you think the win loss record is the only criteria that makes a great coach you need help.

Pete Carroll was 83-19 in 9 years at USC. with 2 NC's. That is a great record. Do you consider him a great coach?

Joe Paterno had a career record of 409 wins, 136 losses, and 3 ties with 2 NC's.

In his 46 seasons as a head coach, he had 38 winning seasons, one more than Bear Bryant

Paterno holds the record for most victories by a Division I-A/FBS football coach.

Do you consider Paterno a great coach?

make up your mind

Argue away.

you first....probably will take you a lttle longer to come up with your list..

Paterno was a great coach

As far as his won loss record yes.

You do not think covering up the pedophiles acts of his long time assistance coach changes his legacy?

Allowing children to be raped by a member of his staff and not stopping it is not a great coach.

Patreno was great till he let a child molester hang around the program, and molest little boys in the shower

Your statement. makes my point.
The win loss record is not all that is involved for one to be considered a great coach.

except for the fact your using to say Fulmer's not a great coach, when he's a HOF'r

I think there is a question on how he was named HC. There are a few insiders that know exactly what happened. and the rest if us will never know the 100% truth. I remember. when it happened. and it has always been my belief that he did do Majors wrong. At same time Majors did have some issues but had turned UT into a very good program loaded with talent.

After Fulmer was named coach i supported him 100% and thought he did a good until the and of 2001 season.

The only year Fulmer won national awards was the 1998 season.

After 2001 it appears he became lax. in his job performance , winning didn't mean as much as it did before he won the NC.

He list control of his team. TN basically became thug U under Fulmer

The Tennessee team had over 20 players arrested for criminal activity in a 16 month period from 2004 through 2005 .. thus came what is know as the Fulmer Cup

He show his lack if team discipline in 1995 when 9 players were arrested.*

He left the football program with very little talent. If you recall Kiffin had to start walkons.

IMO we had 2 coaches during the Fulmer years. A hungry. coach thru 2001 then one that really did not put much effort into the job after that.

if Fulmer had stepped down after the 2001 season, he would have been considered one of the great coaches of all time. He hurt his legacy. and his reputation. by hanging around without putting 100% into the job.

This is what I call a Great Coach.
Check out the last sentence, that is fantastic .

The*Tennessee Lady Volunteers
*have won eight NCAA Division I titles (1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008), the most in women's college basketball history and are led by*Pat Summitt
, the all-time winningest basketball coach in NCAA history. Her 1,000th victory occurred on February 5, 2009, and she boasts a 100 percent graduation rate for all players who finish their career at UT

their both Great Coaches..

Majors was replaced by Fulmer for 3 rerasons:

1) Fulmer beat Alabama
2) Majors was pissing and moaning about money
3) Majors was a drunk

you actually think Fulmer was a great coach.
you really believe that?

1.Alabama. was not the Alabama. it is today. They were getting beat up by several teams.

2. majors moaning about money makes Phil a great coach? that makes a lot of sense.

3. Majors being a drunk makes Phil a great coach? brilliant statement .
Majors may have had a drinking problem he left TN a major player in the NCAA loaded with talent. Fulmer left TN in bad bad shape with very little talent.
