fulmer's applying for any job that comes open---he can double dip and earn a few hundred thou on top of the millions he sucked out of UT after he left.

First I would like to say please don't show up at my house with torches and pitchforks but I think CPF would be a good hire just about anywhere... I think is problem the last year he was at UT I think he was getting burnt out... We must remember he was a really good coach for a really long time. I think CPF biggest fault was winning a NC cause he set the Bar too high to keep on repeating his success.. Just my 2 cents...
OK let the beating begin
:machgun:

I understand your sentiment, and I am still grateful to Coach Fulmer for his years of devotion to Tennessee, but I don't think he was burnt out. I just think that football passed him by. Coach Fulmer was never a great X's and O's type of coach. His talent was in recruiting and in having decent assistants around him.

Then, one day, all the other SEC schools started really improving their coaching (UF goes from Zook to Meyer, Richt arrives at UGA, Saban at Bama, etc.). Cutcliffe departed for a HC job at Ole Miss and then Coach Fulmer found that recruiting was getting a bit harder. In addition, it seems like when Cutcliffe left the discipline left with him. Around that time, we started having some serious off-the-field issues with player conduct.

If you add all of this together, it equals Coach Fulmer's downhill slide taking our program with him. I don't hate the guy like it seems many on this board do, but I agree that he should have been removed a few seasons before he was finally fired. The 2001 disaster at the end, losing to an inferior LSU team and missing out on playing for another National Championship, was the first sign of trouble. It got worse from there.

Wherever Coach Fulmer goes, I wish him well. I just don't think he needs to coach UT again. Ever. He might make a decent athletic director if Hamilton is ever fired, but not our head football coach.

The fact he needed to leave aside, we gave him the contract. He didn't 'suck it our of UT.' We gave a crazy contract and then broke it.

Not his fault we did a terrible job at contract negotiation.

I am so tired of you guys whining about how much you hate Fulmer! He is loyal to UT and sure he didn't have a stellar record towards the end of his career but LET IT GO ALREADY!!! You talk about him as if he was Kiffin or something!

I wish him the best of luck in whatever he does and have nothing but respect and admiration for him.

No way. MTSU wouldn't even be interested in him considering the amount of money he would want. Stock is already one of the lowest paid coaches in the FBS.

:hi:IMO I think PF was job scared, he would not hire an OC that might replace him other than Cut. I always liked PF until the last couple of years when it became about PC and not the vols. The money these coaches get is ridiculous.

Fulmer was trying a few months ago to interview for the Notre Dame job. He won't take it, even though he probably should.

Exactly.

It's not like he showed up at WATE and demanded they give him an interview.

Someone asked him a question, I'm sure, and he answered. To say "no comment" would lead to too much further speculation.

Who asked him the question!? No doubt it was one person. Surely to god there aren't two people on this planet that are stupid enough to think he'd be considered...

I think Fulmer can't help himself sometimes and he is still bitter on being fired. I wish he could take lessons from Coach Majors and show more class. Anyway, I wish him the best at MTSU or wherever he lands.

If Fulmer takes the MTSU job, he is truly desperate, which he probably is. I just don't see it however. Fulmer is still arrogant enough to think he can land a big time coaching job at a BCS school. I got news for him. It's not gonna happen. Wake up Phil!

I was listening to Brent Dougherty of 1045 the Zone this afternoon and he was talking about candidates if current MTSU coach Rick Stockstill takes the East Carolina job. Out of nowhere, Phil Fulmer's name popped up. Got to wonder if he was considered for the South Florida and East Carolina openings.
I am convinced that Citadel Broadcasting is either owned by Jimmy Sexton or the stations in Nashville (104.5) and Knoxville (Sports Animal) are so far up Fulmer's rectum that they will throw his name out for any job opening in the country. Disgraceful... The only people that are considering Fulmer for a HC position are the Fulmerites in the media and Fulmer. I bet you a million dollars that if you were in the local markets of USF, ECU, La Tech, Cinncinnati or wherever and listened to the buzz on the stations during the time of their openings, Fulmer's name would barely be mentioned.

8 BCS schools, who didn't have coaches in waiting already named, have hired coaches the past couple of months and ZERO of them had any interest in Fulmer. Word is Louisville gave him about a 10 minute interview and that was it. Fulmer is a legend only in his and some delusional fans' minds. He could never have and will get another job at a BCS program not named Tennessee. And that is a fact.

+ infinity.

Don't forget Jimmy Hyams with the Citadel deal.

I've actually thought about the possibility of Fulmer ending up there if the job ever came open. It would be a place he could go to where he'd not stir up any controversy at all, and he certainly wouldn't be the last old coach to take a job like that.

If Fulmer thinks he has a point to prove that he's not washed up, he should go somewhere like MTSU and work as hard as he did 15 years ago.

Why? To prove he really is washed up? I mean, that's like a 85 year old moving to a nursing home in florida to prove they aren't retired.

Rick is staying at MTSU, this thread is a waste of cyberspace.

I find it hard to believe some of the viterol still caste Fulmer's way.

He's out, why not just give it a rest.

I read at least a couple articles stating that some high-level boosters had reached out to him to gauge his interest in the job.

Personally, I think he said he wasn't seeking the job to keep the focus where it belonged: on the program. Him jumping into the mix would create a s***-storm. I think anyone who thinks he did it out of arrogance doesn't have a clue. Let it go.

It's as bad as Democrats still whining about Bush. You can either fixate on the past, or you can look ahead. Take a guess on which one leads to success.

At his request. I used to like fulmer (as a person) until I realized that he withdrew his name from consideration as a coach. That was petty. He was trying to kick us when we were down. I hope the best job offered to him is MTSU.

If I recall correctly at Hamilton's first press conference after Kiffin resigned, He was asked if he saw any way Fulmer would be back as head coach..
Hammy's answer: NO
Fulmer announced the next day that he was not nterested. Hammy had already made it very clear Fulmer was not being considered.

Burhead: I think Fulmer's name will always pop up when a job becomes open till he get's another job...

The only place that showed any interest in Fulmer was Louisville. They did interview him.
Fulmer let it be known he was interested in some of the other openings but was not interviewed by any of them.

allvol123: I'm in favor of anything that gets him out of Knoxville. His behavior last week was ridiculous.

Agree 100%. It appeared to me that he was working in the background trying to get the AD job with Cut as HC.
Either one or both would have been terrible moves for UT.

I hope he gets the MTSU job if they are showing any interest. That would be a good job for him and close enough that all the Fulmerites can go cheer him on..
