Fulmer's decision

Fulmer will not fire A WOMAN, too much push back from #Me too movement , all the political female hacks say women are held back by men in world / workplace
does anyone remember Martha Burke , I got watch the Masters golf tourney commercial free thanks to her , Hootie Johnson is da man...……………………….

This is what I alluded to in another thread. I hope I'm wrong.

I do have to be honest. I'm not tore up about losses anymore. The Lady Vols have not been an elite program since Holly took over. I saw the writing on the wall years ago. Yesterday's loss did not bother me. I just think she is a bad coach that needs to be replaced if the program has a chance to be championship caliber again. If they don't then it won't bother me that much. It will send a message that they are ok with the status quo. Expect more results like this year.

I have known HW could not coach for yrs andneedee to be fired, and I put that view forth when it was extemely unpopular with some of the other fans on this forum. It even got me a sabbatical from this forum for quite awhile. But while thewomens tourney is going on is not the time to fire her in my opinion. The media will run with stories to fill airtime about us firing a coach who made the tourney and how “crazy” Vol fans are and then bring up Schianno (sp) hiring/not. Coaches we are going after will understand the reason she would be let go, but every recruit would see the negative publicity and they are the ones it would hurt us with. They would just see crazed redneck fans after ESPN’s runs a zillion negative things about us. Fire her just wait a few more days till when hockey or baseball or whatever else is the lead story on ESPN.

Should be quick and decisive, either way. It will be disappointing if no decision is made in the next couple of days (by Monday) if Holly is returning. If Fulmer let's this drag out, it makes him look weak as an AD...
My biggest problem with Holly is that she has had 7 years to fix this and she hasn't yet. Does anyone that likes the Lady Vols really think she will fix this durning the off season. Holly you need to stop blaming the players and look in the mirrow and tell the press you didn't do a very good job of coaching these ladys.

I don't think Warlick is very articulate by any means but one of the more puzzling/interesting things she said was "we gotta change the culture". The culture used to be fine. Whose watch did it change under? Many of these issues point back to Warlick yet she will never take personal responsibility.

That would involve saying "I and me"
Too busy saying We, they and she

A lot of the coaches who would be under consideration still have teams playing. Could sever ties with Holly now, but then you are just in a different limbo....no coach and no new coach to introduce...or even a list of possible candidates. With a team still playing in the NCAAT what good coach would publicly announce they were leaving or even considering leaving? I understand the “best ‘twere done quickly “ concept, but it is almost a choose your poison. No good way in any direction.
If I'm a player and sick of wasting my career playing for Holly, I'd want to know what administration is gonna do about it. Saving face for the university would not be my concern. If the signs are true and Evina is giving a "me or her" ultimatum, I'm not waiting 2 weeks for an answer; I'm shopping for a new school on Monday.

I don’t think political considerations matter here.
I think Fulmer knows he should fire her but there are two reasons against it.
One - his personal loyalty. They have been friends a long time.
Two - Money - her large buyout and the extra salary bump needed to hire someone better.

“If wishes were horses...”
Never said anything about “Saving face for the university...” That boat has sailed.
No one said not “shop”, just a matter of choosing the most effective method of dong so.
More involved here than UT, UTAD, UT athletes, etc. It is not all in house.
Hopefully UT Admin will be competent, judging by previous ‘recent’ experience not very hopeful of that.
And that is not a shot at PF. It is a shot at BOT. At least we now have an intelligent, committed Chancellor.

Sigh, #Metoo is about sexual harassment; it has no dog in a fight about firing an under performing coach. That contention is JUST PLAIN STUPID.

As for Burke, her beef with Augusta was that it was a meeting ground for corporate executives and hence, the male only policy precluded women business leaders from social networking opportunities. In 2012, Augusta admitted two women --Condoleezza Rice and banker Darla Moore--as members. They have since expanded their female membership and now Augusta has figured out that gender inclusion is GOOD business:

As reported in the NYT:

"On Wednesday, Fred Ridley, in his first major appearance as the new chairman of Augusta National, unexpectedly announced that the club would create and help host the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship next year. The 54-hole tournament will be played the week before the 2019 Masters, with the first two rounds at a local club near Augusta and the final round at Augusta National on April 6, a Saturday."

In the end, your man Hootie Johnson cost Augusta and the Masters a lot of $ and a lot of bad press to defend an outmoded way of thinking. Hey. birds of a feather right!

And all of this has ZILCH to do with Holly's job status.

Thank you. This will be job performance, admittedly loyalty has factored in previously, but my guess it is now factored out. Don’t care if we hire a man or woman; just the best possible out there for the Lady Vols program.

You won't stay sane if you try to parse the meaning of any of the myriad excuses and explanations Holly has put forth since abandoning her favorite line: "I don't know." Yesterday's presser was just another example of the ramblings of a clueless coach whose primary skill is ducking for cover. She actually said, for example, that the team practices with greater intensity than they play. Do you believe that? She has expressed puzzlement at how untrained kids coming in are for the last 2 years and it takes until yesterday for her to say we have got to get back to basics? She'll say anything in a press conference because she is never asked a probing question; not one. She could say they lost to Arkansas or Alabama because the watre was drugged and get away with it. There has been no accountability in the program for a long time.

May it soon be over.

Thank you for trying to educate on this yet AGAIN. People are impatient and get irrational. PF could have been already searching for someone.

It's not about starting a new chapter yet, but closing the Holly chapter. The sooner that's done the better IMO, for all involved. If Fulmer wants/needs to wait a couple of weeks to make the hire, it really isn't a big deal...

Fulmer will take the time he needs, and I guarantee you he doesn’t give a damn how it makes him look.

Tennessee does not have the money to fire warlick they have spent so much money on football staff and plus paying a buyout for warlick and spending money on a proven head coach to come here and live in Pat's footsteps it's a tough job

every recruit would see the negative publicity and they are the ones it would hurt us with.
Im way more concerned about the negative publicity every opposing coach already provides recruits with which is the Mercedes Russell Lack of Development Syndrome that surrounds Holly Warlick's teams. That hurts us most.
They would just see crazed redneck fans after ESPN’s runs a zillion negative things about us.
Nah,I don't think we'll get hit too badly with Deranged Vol Fan blowback on this one. Holly has made a really strong public case that she actually does need to be ridden out on a rail.

Here's a circa Late 1970s picture of hopefully soon to be Ex-Tennessee women's basketball head coach Holly Warlick. Tennessee needs to wear these throwback uniforms sometime in the future.

1st things first. Fire Holly. Get THAT done. Even if they move her to some other non effectual job for awhile. The fact she is even acknowledging "its not up to her" shows she knows she's on hot seat and should be. This should be done today. Also....the fact she is Phil's friend should not play into this one iota. Nobody should give two s**ts who Phil's friends are. This isn't about him.
