Future Lady Vols Coach

It's different because Pat had the clout that Holly doesn't yet. Holly is having to work much harder to keep Tennessee in the minds of recruits. So far, she has. However, the more talk about wanting her gone is undermining her ability to get recruits here. All this is doing is helping other schools, while hurting Tennessee now, and in the future.

Be careful what you wish for in terms of a new coach coming in.
Where did I say I wanted a new coach? I said if and when the position comes open. The whole thread was supposed to be about Tyler and his progress as a coach, not an indictment of the current staff. Holly isn't going to coach forever. When she is out, whether by her choice or not, I think Tyler will be the one. Geez.

There will always exist that person who wants to push everyone's button, and this is one way of doing it. Some people will never be satisfied or happy with the current coach, unless their name ends with Summit, Fulmer or Pearl. They have no life and prefer others suffer the same private hell they created for themselves.

Go Vols!!

So this turned into the Holly sucks thread. :thud:
Nothing like going for the throat. Tyler will never be the head coach here. Does anybody remember laughter? :eek:lol:

GO VOLS!

All you need is a whiff of opportunity and the hyenas will pounce. I don't know if Holly is the answer, but it is tough following a legend and overall women's BB is much more competitive than it was in the past. One thing for sure, if we expect Tyler to come in here and instantly win NCs, we are in for a big disappointment.

The longer I'm on this forum, the more convinced I am that "Deliverance" was based on a true story.

Great comparison, OrangeManiac. You might need to update "Deliverance" with vampires and zombies to get the full effect.

I've been following Tyler's story since his early teens when it became obvious (to us outsiders) that he was serious about coaching. The people who pooh-pooh Tyler as a future candidate for the Lady Vols just think we're enamored with the Summitt name and looking for a storybook ending. They don't know the details, and that's okay. He'll have to prove himself by winning and recruiting anyway, and that's when they'll start paying attention.

Watched the game last night online--his girls are starting to get it. All the stuff he and Mickie DeMoss have been teaching them clicked in a major way last night. Their best game came against their best opponent.

The timeline is going to be the interesting part of this story. If Tyler is successful bringing La Tech's storied program back from the grave, will he have proven himself at the very moment people conclude Tennessee is on the same downward glide path the Lady Techsters fell into after (Pat's first nemesis) Leon Barmore retired?

I don't think we're on that slide yet. We're still recruiting too well. The program remains premiere, the facilities top-notch. Whether our current problems are due to coaching, team chemistry, or simply too many injury-plagued careers hindering too many players from achieving their original potential... I don't know. At some point, though, perception threatens to become its own reality.

I'll be interested to count how much orange shows up in the stands at MTSU in January when Tyler brings his Lady Techsters to Murfreesboro for that key conference matchup. This year's orange-count could be a telling benchmark for future visits to his home state.

Orange Maniac, you need to visit the Lady Techsters forum at latechbbb.com. They have a very friendly--but passionate--online community. A great change-of-pace from our vol(-eat-vol)nation.

Winning. Recruits want to play for winning programs. And let me take it the one step farther: They want to play for programs that are winning NOW, or very recently, not a program that won 10 or 15 years ago. When it comes to recruiting, sports is a 'what have you done lately' business. When did we win our last national title--10 years ago? We can't afford to sit around and hope that Warlick will learn to be come a good head coach--not going to happen.

I have to step in. If recruits are going to go to "winning" teams then why are we getting top ten classes in football? CPF was getting us 8,9 or more wins. Has a bad season or two and we fire him. We've been reeling for years.

We won our last national title in 2008. Not 10 years ago.

Holly will still be head coach in 5+ years. Hart doesn't give a d*** about UT womens basketball and doesn't want to spend the cash to get a quality new coach.

I sure hope you are wrong, but with the name changing thing, I wonder. I still think that a lot of men AD's could care less about women's athletics. If many of the men AD's were honest, they would more than likely tell you that if not for Title 9 they could care less if there were any women's sports on their campus. I do not think, win or lose, Holly will ever leave on her own. I would not be surprised to see Rutgers beat the Lady Vols. I will pull for the ladies but am very nervous about this one.

Do you people not realize how much trouble all of these anti-Holly threads are doing!? If you think recruits, recruiting services, scouts, etc don't read these boards, you are out of your minds! If you were a recruit, and were considering Tennessee, wouldn't you go online to research and see what the fans are like, and what they are saying about the program. I know for a fact that recruiters are trying to steer kids away from Tennessee, and these anti-Holly tirades are NOT helping that.

Regarding Walz, or any other big time coach, they are not leaving to coach at Tennessee. PERIOD! If Holly were to leave, we would be screwed, and I don't mean with just the new coach, the program would be in a huge upheaval. It would make the men's issues seem non-existent.

Do you not think potential recruits watch the games of the teams recruiting them. What fans say on these boards can't do near the damage that watching how the team is coached during a game can. If I were a recruit and saw how the players at UT are coached then I would definitely be steered away.

Do you have any idea what those press conferences after each loss to teams like utc look like to these recruits?

here's a photo gallery that ESPNW did of Pat Summitt watching Tyler's first home game

Coach Summitt ... Squared - Pat Summitt's Dream Day: Son Tyler Takes Over at La. Tech - espnW

Thanks TechDawg for that post. It must be thrilling for the Lady Techsters to have CPS cheering them on and showing up at meetings/practices, etc. I wish Tyler all the best and with all of his hard work and support/mentoring that he is getting from his mom, Mickie DeMoss and others I believe that he will be able to pull the Lady Techsters out of their slump. It looks like he's got a lot of work ahead of him with this team. It will be great if he's able to coach the Lady Techsters back into the championship winning team that they once were. I look forward to watching the Lady Techsters under his leadership.

Go Lady Techsters!

The last place recruits and their families should visit are the message boards devoted to particular schools.

We write things on message boards we would not, for the most part, say in a face-to-face meeting.

Recruits and their families know how fickle and dumb we all are.

It's natural that we see the world through orange-tinted glasses, but... think about it. How would we feel if the son of Conn began coaching here and Geno was showing up in our house, posing for photos standing astride our center court logo?

The LaTech fans have been mighty gracious--give them their due. But it didn't come without a lot of brains telling their guts, "No, it's okay. She's not here to de-throne us again!"

Yes, Pat's a legend. But so is Leon Barmore.

The last I'm going to say on this subject is that you would be surprised who reads these boards. Recruits, recruits' families, opposing coaching staffs, national sportswriters, etc all read these, and their opinions of the team we "support" are formed in part from what they read here. If you think that these posts are just idle words that only Tennessee fans read, you are sadly mistaken. Criticizing the coaching staff is fine, but calling for their heads is ridiculous, and is doing more harm than you know. If you want Tennessee to get back to where it was, these threads are not helping.

Or even moderators of other forums sending their "cult" to spread the Holly propaganda. Pathetic, even for her.

So nice to be at a forum where the moderator allows independent thought and doesn't play god....

i actually don't think Tyler will ever coach at UT,why would he want that headache ?to be compared to what his mom has done here ? no matter how good or bad he might be,he might surprise me,but i doubt it

and yes all the negativity does hurt CHW's recruiting, there's no way it doesn't ,people don't think others look at this fine ass site ,but they do and it is brought to recruits attention, don't think it isn't

How exactly has this negatively affected Holly's recruiting of top rated players or any players for that matter ?

2015 Cooper #3 as per Prospect Natio
2015 DeShields #3 as per ESPN in 2013
2014 Nared #6 as per ESPN
2013 Russell #1 as per ESPN
Tennessee will have a bench full of AA's next year and only slightly fewer this year. I would like to know which recruit did not choose Tennessee because of comments made on VolNation ? Which would have a greater determination on where a recruit chooses to go, a quote by some anonymous person on a team board or losing to Chattanooga and looking totally disinterested while doing it ? I'm curious. How far would Tennessee have to fall before it was "OK" to call for a new coach ?
Allow me to provide some guidelines: 10+ losses, no SEC regular season title, no SEC tournament title, exit from the NCAA's before the final four. Would that do it ?
See you in April.

Man, did this thread get de-railed. It wasn't supposed to be about recruiting or getting rid of a coach. It was supposed to be about a person who I think will coach here someday. There are too many agendas by people in this forum both ways and it has to be brought up in every thread it seems. I will say one last thing. Yes, I'm sure players and their families come on here and read these threads but if they let 5 or 6 unidentified people on a forum influence their decision versus seeing the following and support the Lady Vols have from fans and the coaching staff, they aren't really smart enough to be Lady Vols. Basing a decision on a forum would be utter stupidity.

It doesn't matter what is said here players can see what is happening on the basketball court. They can form their own opinions as to whether were playing good basketball or not nothing said here will make any difference.

I can see Tyler being the coach here someday and he almost got his first big win tonight. LaTech was tied with undefeated and #22 MS State with about a minute to go. A costly inbounds turnover did them in even though the attempt at a tying 3 point bucket bounced on the rim 3 times before rolling off. State added a free throw with less than 2 seconds to go to win by four at 81 to 77. It's going to be interesting to see how he develops as a coach.

No, we want Carol Lawson
