Future OOC Matchups

There was a game against an above average Washington St. team in '94 and an average Texas Tech team in '97 that you left out. But your point stands, it wasn't exactly murderers row aside from the early 90's games with ND. I still don't see what you stand to gain by scheduling games that are almost certain losses at a time when you are struggling to get bowl eligible. Sure, there will be a lot of eyes on UT this fall when they play Oregon, but at the same time, a lot of eyes are going to see UT get humiliated. I don't know what good comes from that.

I knew I left a couple of games out. Thanks for remembering those. Regarding scheduling "memorable" games I don't know. Outside of week 1, all the games tend to get lost amongst all the other games on TV each Sat.

Even if UT beats Oregon in week 3 no one will care outside of Knoxville and Eugene by week 4.

Hate to say it but we HAVE to keep these games because of this one simple fact...the Big 10, yes that bunch of losers from up north, have taken the stance that they will no longer let their member schools play FCS teams. If we loaded our non-conf schedule up with patsy teams like that we would NEVER hear the end of it. Besides, we're Tennessee...the logo NEVER comes off

Im halfway expecting that game to be in Foxborough, but if its at UCONN, thats just stupid, pretty sure Arky goes to Rutgers this year too, but i may be wrong on that one

That's something Vandy would and should do...... not us.

Why would the UConn game be moved to Foxboro? Some of you are way overestimating the "UT " draw. At most UT would have about 8 -10K fans. I'm sure UConn has that many empty seats on any given Sat.

Take our lumps over the next couple of years; develop into the team that every OOC team wants to dump.

Problem solved.

I think you are also over estimating how many will go to Conn for a football game mid season. This isnt going to Memphis, Nashville or some SEC city. Its about 940 miles from Knoxville and in the middle of fb season. Yes, its the same distance from Knoxville to TA&M but at least College Station will get those in West Tn that are closer.

This game will never be moved to Foxboro. Last year UConn averaged about 36,500 at their 6 home games and that's in a stadium that seats 40,000. Most they had was 37,000 which leaves 3k empty. We travel well but which would they want - a completely full stadium at home or a barely 2/3rds filled Gillette Stadium that holds 68,000. Vandy tried this years ago when the Vols played in Nashville and while there was more orange that black and more than their 45K stadium holds, LP field just looked empty.

We'll buy the game from them and move it.

Do you all think we will keep all these upcoming games? Some sound awesome, but man our schedule is already so hard with just our yearly SEC rivals.

2013
@Oregon
2014
@Oklahoma
2015
Oklahoma
@UConn
2016
Uconn
@Nebraska
2017
Nebraska

What do you all think?

I thought we were supposed to play Ohio State in 2016 or sometime around there?

I know I'm in the minority, but IMO there is no reason any of these games should ever take place. UT simply isn't competitive enough any more to schedule games that are almost certainly losses. Getting bowl eligible is tough enough for us right now even when we schedule 4 guaranteed wins.

We really do have the players to be competitive. We just have needed a competent staff that will get the most out of all the players and not show favoritism and make them all accountable. Not saying we win the East next year but we have players to beat a team or two that we shouldnt, especially a home game. Look at Kiffin, we put beatdowns on GA and USCe and were a bad FG kicker away from beating Ala. I truely believe CBJ gets his signature win in his first season and breaks the going 0 for against ranked teams that Dooley started for us. I am in no way saying we win at Oregon, but I bet we are more competive for the entire game and dont get embarrased week in and out like we experienced the last 3half yrs.

Agree. If you're playing more than 1 mid level BCS school OOC, you're nuts. Teams like Florida, UGA and SC that have built in OOC rivalries should be playing all directional schools.

Fla plays FSU ans SC plays Clemson. Those are one good OOC game a yr. GA on the other hand. Ala used to be bad about it too but they keep getting these kickoff games, although it has been been an overrated Michigan team and VTech a few yrs ago and again next yr.Not great but decent.

Disagree. If we played at UCONN that game would be sold out.

We offer to buy the game from UConn them move it to Nashville or Memphis. We havent had a home game in Memphis in a long time and might be good for recruiting in that end of the state.

I like playing up there. We recruited New Jersey better when we played Army, Rutgers, Boston College, and Syracuse. And there are some quality players in New Jersey. We need the nedia win in the East.

Our recruiting has taken a hit since we went to playing the same wimpy OOC schedule that the rest of the conference plays. And look at Bama. Their program exploded when playing a great OOC schedule.

And you wonder why we have trouble recruiting top players to UT? Majors used a strong OOC schedule to build a national recruiting program and Fulmer continued it. Dickey believed in it. Great football players want to play the best. Fans want to see the traditional teams of college football. If your goal at UT is to beat UT Martin, South Alabama, Troy, and Austin Peay then you will always be a weak sister in the SEC. I did not hear very much excitement after we beat Troy last season. Why would we?

Look at the attendance in recent years. Outside of the conference, Oregon and UCLA have been our only sellouts. People are tired of UT pushing $65 tickets to play the sisters of the poor.

I have no problems with that logic either but dear God please dont tell me you're trying to say UConn is a great OOC opponent. :crazy:
