GA ATH Arik Gilbert (LSU commit)

How has he been a cancer?
Issues at LSU, "homesick" but really problems off the field and "personal issues" keep him out.
Verbal commit to FL, then scraps that.
Commits to GA, then "personal issues" for a year.
Comes back to GA for 2 catches.
Hits the portal.

In the old days we called this "a head case."

The very last thing you need is a talented distraction in your locker room.

None of that says he's a cancer, distraction, or disruption to the locker room. I don't think LSU or UGA was depending on him and he didn't show up. I'm sure they are understanding of his struggles, especially mental health episodes.

None of that says production either.

I hope he gets the help he needs but he's obviously not able to do that while playing football at the SEC level. There's simply no reason to waste a scholarship on a guy who apparently can't see the field and hasn't seen the field much since he graduated HS in 2018 as a "future star." How far in the future?

I don't at all understand any upside to the guy.

Kid is talented tho for sure, Iā€™m sure alot
If schools will look here. If coach Heup feels like he can get production from him, heā€™s a take all day.

I think thereā€™s no way heupel would ever even talk to AG and for good reasonā€¦it would be a complete waste of resources. Give me a mid tier 4 star or an upper 3 star that has a chip on his shoulder and big dreams over a slightly more ā€œtalentedā€ 5 star all day
Agree. Iā€™m excited about the transfer TE coming in

Itā€™s supposed to be funny, doesnā€™t mean anything. You never heard anyone fake a British accent?
Hmm. My impression was that this wasn't something done as a joke, but more like he just switched to a British accent and started using it. I didn't witness though so I don't know if he did it, in any event, as I said, we can deal with some weirdness even if that's the case, he's a great talent.

That would be a great reason to get him so Heupel could work his magic on him.

Gents, this young man needs to put football on the back burner. He has had multiple ā€œissuesā€ at two previous SEC institutions, the latest of which was stealing from his teammates. He was dismissed from the team but the staff still kept an eye on him as he needs structure and stability. I pray he gets the help he needs.

The portal gives availability for a young man to be a perennial recruit and experience the excitement of annually entertaining offers to play college football. He does not need to restrict himself to bond with a team and develop productive skills through hard work. Well there comes a time when the former 5-star high school athlete is considered a flop and he has wasted the opportunity for a college education and is of no real value to a football program. Personal problems, lack of discipline, and poor advice are reality for many kids that have been favorably treated due to athletic ability but at some point opportunities are awarded to others who have their acts together.

I don't think that's what has happened to this cat from what I've heard. Word is he has had some issues that are likely no fault of his own. That said, the dog eat dog (forgive the pun) culture in Athens is probably not the best for someone like that. He is a tremendous talent still though. You'd think a man like Heupel could help him if anyone could.
