GA ATH Arik Gilbert (LSU commit)

I don't think that's what has happened to this cat from what I've heard. Word is he has had some issues that are likely no fault of his own. That said, the dog eat dog (forgive the pun) culture in Athens is probably not the best for someone like that. He is a tremendous talent still though. You'd think a man like Heupel could help him if anyone could.
He's running out of time and options. You'd probably spend one season getting his mental health right (therapy, trying and adjusting different meds). Then hope to get one productive season out of him. He's probably better off going to a FCS school or HBCU.

Just asking a question here and not casting stones, but are we calling substance abuse his mental health issues, or are we talking about something different altogether? Seems like there was a rumor of sticky fingers with his latest bump in the road. Regardless, hope the young man gets help.

Nope. Actual mental illness similar to chronic severe depression.

I don't know for sure, I gather it's not just substance abuse, everyone isn't usually so dang hush, hush about that. People down here in Georgia just say "pray for him" and what not. As I said above, I did hear that he randomly speaks with a British accent.

You do realize the guy has caught 2 passes since 2020, right?

He's been either "injured" or on a "mental health break" from GA. He needed a "mental health break" from LSU also.

This will be his third team with very little production. We are not "Rehab U." Let Liberty have him.
Sure glad we didn’t take this approach with Bru.

From an academic standpoint, he can barely read. Think LSU said his transferring GPA was like a 1.2 for his time there. And he smokes more weed than Cheech and Chong.

He is insanely talented, but I doubt we ever see him play meaningful football ever again

He was actually a pretty smart/clean cut kid from a good family coming out of HS apparently, but I am given to understand that his first semester at LSU he started manifesting sudden onset serious mental illness (think e.g. schizophrenia/bipolar) which wreaks havoc on your life in all sorts of ways, including your academic career. This is a very sad situation that does not seem to be easily pigeon holed into the usual narratives.

All that talent and dude just throws it away. It’s sad. If it’s mental illness, you’d think one of these schools would’ve gotten him help by now.
