'21 GA CB Nyland Green (UGA commit)

Everyone dealt with Covid this year, everyone. Including first year coaches, (one who beat our ass). It's not a valid excuse. It just isn't. Even with the lack of an off-season, it's inexcusable to lose to likes of Kentucky and Arkansas. Expectations for most fans (and yes they are reasonable expectations, get out of your Vandy mindset) were 6-4 or 7-3. No one in thier right mind was cool with 2-8 or 3-7. That's completely laughable. Plus it's not a this year thing. Last year was extremely ugly too. GA State, BYU, blown out by rivals. That win streak was overblown, and it honestly only happened due to some Butch hold overs. It's clear Pruitt is in over his head. Yes the team he took over was a mess, he's gotten a lot better talent in here. But that talent is being wasted. And I don't see things magically getting better. The writing is on the wall and has been for a while now.

Lack of off-season prep really hampers a team whose talent mostly comprises of Fr and Soph. And didn’t Knox Co have more strict contact tracing requirements than others? Could be totally wrong about that but I feel like I read it somewhere.

Anyway, that’s no excuse for being uncompetitive. You gotta find a way to either scheme around lack of talent or simplify to be able to play more youth.

If regular fans can see that then you know that CJP can see it. And knows it. But he refuses to change and it is maddening.

Do you mind paraphrasing what they said?
I am also interested in what ATL thanks of Pruitt...
I'm not sure which one said what but something like this:

Pruitt was never a good fit, has issues with general attitude that do not make him a great match.

Do not believe he is capable of learning the things needed to be a successful head coach here.

The recruits/players love him but not really anyone else.

Fulmer takes a lot of the stuff off his plate he's not good at but also micromanages.

I'm sure more was said that I missed. It sounds like the situation is toxic and Fulmer has hitched himself to it and sisterly will ride it out. Tone has changed a little though, were as before they said no changes will be made at HC they now say that leadership will evaluate all variables, sounds like we will likely ride this out though.

I hate paraphrasing what others have said, I am not good at tech so I can't go quote it for you, I have made a honorable attempt to relay the just of what they said, I hope I did it justice.

They were pretty scathing while being diplomatic.
I went back and read them.... Two micro managers with huge egos in control... One of them being ridiculously stubborn and unteachable.....

Yea, we're screwed...

Yea, they were trying to be nice. I took it that Pruitt’s wife reads some of this? I feel bad for his family. They're going to take a lot of crap, unnecessarily, because Jeremy is not good at this job..

Pruitt is a good coach, just not a head coach. He's suited to be a DC, nothing wrong with that just what it is.

I disagree. Let me make a suggestion to a bunch of you. Rewind your expectations back to what they were at the start of this year and gear up for next year. If next year is more of the same, THEN we'll have our answer.

There was a time where we were begging for football... "Please give us football, and I won't complain about anything." All of a sudden we're calling for coaches' heads. It's senseless.

1. I hate that we're comparing Pruitts' record this year to past years/coaches when he had virtually no off-season due to covid, and we're playing an all-SEC schedule. There's no season in recent history that's remotely comparable. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED, FOLKS. So what if some coaches are handling it well?... many, many are not.

2. Sorry, but Covid absolutely IS an excuse to give Pruitt a free pass this year. It's a fallacy to say that everyone has had to deal with it, because the simple truth is that quarantine protocols have NOT been the same from team to team.

3. Instability in the program is as much a problem as the coach himself. Let the staff get a full boat of their own guys... 2018 was a transition class, so very few of those guys would have probably been recruited by the current staff. 2019 and 2020 were really good classes, but those guys are sophomores and true freshmen. The MAJORITY of those classes has never had spring football.

4. What proven winner is going to come coach here? I suppose it's possible, but I seriously anyone wants this job, given that you guys are going to put their nuts in a vice if they're not progressing at the rate you think is appropriate.

5. It's very likely the one-time transfer rule is approved for next year. You really want to axe the coach right before then? Something like 120+ guys went into the portal just last week. We need stability right now, until this litany of transfers shakes itself out.

6. I don't care about Freeze's proclivity towards hookers. He lied to his bosses and completely screwed that program for years. THAT'S the sure-fire, take-us-to-the-promised-land guy? I mean, maybe, but I don't know that I'd roll those dice. You think the last ten years have been bad, well lob in heavy sanctions and you'll find out it actually can get a lot worse.

Gah, sorry... this post blew up on me. I'll stop there...
We...lost....to....Arkansas
Insult to injury: They had a first year HC

I agree. If that's his sole responsibility he does it well. When this experiment is over, he'll be hired by a good team as a DC..

Nylands mother is already an attorney south of Atlanta... I get your general point.. but I’ve gathered his family does well enough without having an athlete. The houses in his neighborhood (if that was his actual street looked pretty nice as well) everyone needs a little extra, but I’m sure the partial scholly to UT was just as attractive! Unless they couldn’t swing for out of state to be covered in that!!
GA has the Hope scholarship funded by the lottery. Any student with a 3.2 GPA gets free tuition and books

Right, I’m guessing the difference for a Tennessee track scholarship is the out of state tuition. But I thought there were ways to give out of state athletes in state tuition. My main point was, it hurts peoples credibility a bit when an independent article states that UT made the same pitch to the pole vaulting sister..

You do realize his sister qualifies for hope scholarship so she goes free right? The athletic portion covers to room and board. Unreal

The expectations were built on the false narrative of an 8 game win streak beating nobodies and a recruiting class that was marginal at best.

Poppycock. We didn't beat any elite teams on that win streak, but we were beating our peers in the league and a strong Indiana team. Last year's recruiting class was excellent.
