STOCK RISING
CB Warren Burrell, Suwanee, Ga.
Burrell used his first official visit to travel to Tennessee over the weekend, making his third trip to Knoxville in less than three months, and the Vols again made a big impression on the three-star cornerback. Hes starting to move closer to a decision, with an official visit to Florida scheduled for this weekend and another official visit to N.C. State set for the weekend of June 22. Home-state school Georgia and Auburn also loom as potential factors in Burrell's decision, which hes currently planning to make in July. But Tennessee clearly has positioned itself as one of the teams to beat for Burrell.
-Rivals on his upcoming visit to UFWarren Burrell is back on the road this weekend. He was at Tennessee last weekend for official visit No. 1 and he is now headed to the Swamp. Florida is a finalist for the Peach State cornerback who won a state title last year and the Gators appear to be near the top of his list. Burrell has not gone on record too much about his visit to Knoxville, but he told Rivals his visit was "great". You can expect Dan Mullen and his staff to roll out the red carpet for Burrell, a four-star cornerback that plans to make his decision later this summer.
"I've been down here a couple of times, and taking an official visit down here is way more detailed," Burrell told GT's Jacquie Franciulli. "I talked to (defensive coordinator) coach (Todd) Grantham, coach Mullen, (secondary) coach (Charlton) Warren. They just told me they have a need for what I have with my length and speed.
"They said they can use me really well. They have a shortage of corners and this is a good class for them to pick some up, and they really want me to be one of them."
The blue-chip defender recently stepped foot in Knoxville for an official visit as well. Obviously each school has their advantages and differences, but Burrell says the message from both staffs have been simple and straight to the point.
"Gainesville is slightly different from Knoxville," Burrell said. "It's kind of a different feel down here but with the coaches and everything; it's similiar. They both are really interested in me, recruiting me hard and want me to be part of the program.
"You know, My questions coming in were just where do they me fitting? At the nickel, safety, corner or where in the secondary? At Florida, they want me to play corner, so that was the answered question I got."
The Volunteers have been trending in Burrell's recruitment as of late, but there's no doubting the Gators are pushing all the right buttons as well. Dan Mullen's staff remains in daily contact and will continue to go all in with the recruiting dead period right around the corner.
"It's really good," Burrell said of his relationship with the Gators. "Coach O, I talk to him every day basically. I have a really good relationship with coach Grantham, coach Mullen, coach Warren and everybody down there."
Burrell, who was hosted by UF defensive back Trey Dean, says this weekend's extended stay in the Swamp passed the eye test and met the expectations of his parents as well.
"They like it down there," Burrell said. "My mom, they like it wherever (laughter). They're kind of in the moment kind of people, but my parents really do like it down here, so that's a plus."
If all goes as planned, the nation's 28th-ranked cornerback will be stepping into the spotlight to reveal his decision before returning to the classroom this fall.
The next visit destination will be N.C. State, which will be hosting him for an official visit on June 22.
"Either late July or early August," Burrell said when asked about making a decision. "I'm pretty set on the schools. Florida of course, Tennessee is, N.C. State is, as well as Auburn as well. Those are like, the top four I guess right now."
