Much as I dislike Alabama and want to beat them every year, I have a healthy respect for the Third Saturday in October rivalry. There’s history and generational tradition there. It would be fun if both of those teams are really good for the next 20 years and that’s one of the biggest games in America each year.

But I don’t care about the Florida rivalry. I just wanna beat them. If they suck for 20 years and we run off 20 straight on them and it becomes no bigger than the Vandy game, I’m great with that.
You explained it well, and I think most Vol fans would share the sentiment. I hate Alabama, but I despise Florida.

I guess I'm in the minority. I hate Florida but it's absolutely minuscule compared to the hatred for Alabama. Alabama will always be the ultimate evil. I agree with those who'd rather see UGA win that game this year with UF. Keeping UF down makes a lot more sense. UGA will still be a very strong program win or lose.

Agreed. I hate Florida. But it’s not the 3rd Saturday in October. Florida and Georgia aren’t that much different to me.

Before Bama got so many obnoxious bandwagoners, there was hatred but also respect amongst the fans. The people that have seen both good times and bad in both programs. Florida has always been a different animal; spurrier built that program and infused it with his hatred of Tennessee. Florida was largely irrelevant until Spurrier.

If he could flip Burley, I'd be like

I think I’d rather flip Searcy. Burley is better, but flipping Searcy hurts Florida. And I hate Florida more.
I'd rather flip both, but if forced to choose, I'd take Burley. I'm okay with hurting Clemson, too. They've stolen a lot of players from us over the years.
