'17 GA DT Aubrey Solomon (NCAA IS A FAIR ORGANIZATION)

Case specifics are confidential. The NCAA doesn't release that info. Some coaches and players comment on their cases; UT generally does not.
I really think a kid should be able to transfer whenever he wants and not sit out but I do understand why there are restrictions due to detrimental affects to the other program.

The way ATL made it sound like to me, is that there might be something negative about his move. Which would be why the NCAA hasn’t made a verdict on this specific case. JMO

Instead of talking about him like he's not here, we could try asking?

Boro, is there a reason this DL would have been sharing this with you?

Players are instructed not to partake in such actions as reporting on potential injuries. I highly doubt someone from the team has told anyone anything.

"Take the very breath you gave me, take the heart from my chest. I'll gladly take his place if you'll let me. Make this my last request, take me outta this wooooooorrrrld! But pleeeeeaase, don't take the ACL"

You new avi vexes me. Please return the fish avi so all can be correct in the world again.

I don’t get the uproar to be honest. Yes we need him and an answer should have already been made. However none of us really know what his case is but everyone acts like he has been done an injustice without knowing his details. Luke Ford is a guy that was done a severe injustice.
This.

Early prediction if Solomon is denied: Sean Brown moves from TE to DE for depth. He played more DE in HS anyway. Between DWA, Pope, Warren and Lowe, i think they can handle TE

Another DE fun fact. Latrell Bumphus is finally back at DE. When he got to UT Butch moved him to TE (sound familiar). Coming out of HS he was a 4 star DE and had offers from Bama, Clemson, USCw, Oregon, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas A&M, Miss State, UK, others. He looks like he’s moving well in practice, size wise he seems pretty similar to Kyle Phillips. Im looking for him to push for playing tome early

Pretty sure medical redshirt didn't get scrapped.
The way I heard it was the 4-game rule made the "30% rule" redundant. Basically there's no use for a medical hardship waiver now that you can play 4 games...the old rule is built into it. The bylaw no longer exists either, it has disappeared.

Some have confused the standard medical hardship with the mythical 6th year of eligibility, but that is/always has been separate and that still exists under 12.8 but has stricter standards.

I took the context of the original question as if Gooden had already used his redshirt and now had to sit out his senior year due to injury, could he get a medical redshirt? Which I'm pretty sure he could. But I don't think he used his original redshirt so he wouldn't need it. Just wanted to point out that the medical redshirt could still be possible under some scenarios. Had nothing to do with the 30% rule.

I’m just about convinced the ncaa initially denied the waiver and we are appealing it
Would make sense. First step is reconsideration. Even for that we would need new information to add to his case. A full appeal would require some outside authority. Hopefully it doesn't have to go that far.

Let's just hope the staffer that got the case is just slow and it gets through initially. Things get iffy from there as far as I can tell.

If your first redshirt isn’t medically related your chances for a second (or 6th year) are practically nil...see Jerry Colquitt and Marcus Jackson. Not myths...real Vols.

It’s just a term anyway. You’re never MEDICALLY REDSHIRTED. You’re redshirted with medical reasons as the justification...it’s still a redshirt. If your first redshirt was designated for medical reasons, you’re ELIGIBLE (not guaranteed) for an additional year of eligibility.

In the case where a regular redshirt was used, even the old medical redshirt would not have been available. It would violate the 5 years to play 4 rule. That is where you could request a 6th year of eligibility, which is much tougher to get. Some thought a "medical redshirt" was like a 2nd redshirt, but you were only allowed 1 in total, didn't matter which you used.

I think the confusion came where some called the 6th year of eligibility a medical redshirt. It's separate and is pretty strict. 2/3ds vote from a committee, extenuating circumstances, you have to miss more than just 1 season, etc.

The old medical redshirt was very straight forward. You played (ineligible for standard RS), but played no more than 30% of games (makes sense why they chose 4 games for new rule), injured/ill, and have your RS available, you could use it here.

Some of this is now outdated, but I always liked this guy's explanation:
Redshirts, Medical Redshirts, and 6th Years

Lol at people thinking this team wins 8-9 games of everyone is healthy.

You obviously haven't looked at our schedule. 8 home games and 4-0 on our OOC games. Ky,Vandy,Miss St and SCar are all very winnable and only UK is on the road. Our easiest schedule in over a decade. 8 wins should not even be an issue.

So if the 30% medical redshirt is gone due to the new 4 game rule, then the medical 6th year exception is still possible with a regular redshirt. Again, all hypothetical because Gooden still has a redshirt available.

The 30% medical redshirt isn’t gone. That 30% rule also comes with no games played past 50% of the season. The four game rule doesn’t include the 50% deal
