'22 GA EDGE Joshua Josephs (Tennessee signee)

Agree. What impresses me about Josephs is he’s not only a plus athlete, he plays with noticeable physicality when taking on blockers and ball carriers..
Yup...

I think Josephs plays this year. Pearce redshirts- bulks up to about 238 and gets ready to rocknroll in 2023.
Then all of Josephs, Pearce, Herring play in 2023. They'll be young but athletic and long.

I think he does too. I think Pearce will get every opportunity to carve out a role, but yeah, I could see him redshirting as well. Josephs isn’t as long as Pearce but I believe he has just as much “dynamic” potential.

Definitely didn't recognize his name. I was like who? Covid years are just a blur.

Looks like a good one along with Pearce.

edit: Oh wait I do remember the Josephs name now. "Pearce and Josephs" nm

Probably too light to make an impact this year unless he gets to around 220-225.
New #522
Josh Josephs is a guy who has impressed with his burst and quickness. Josephs has put on over 10 pounds since he signed (now 6’3 225-230)
-VQ

James Pearce is another guy who has added weight and has shown his explosiveness in drills. Interesting on Pearce, he is a pescatarian which means that the only meat he eats is fish. (Now 6’5, 230+)

We are going to need both of these kids to contribute this year. I see them both as 3rd down specialists.

I prefer that they redshirt if at all possible. I don't see them beating out Young or Harrison on the depth chart this year. Let them get some experience in their 4 free games and unleash them next year after S&C. Redshirting and developing guys will be another big part in our success.

Agreed but I think we will need the depth they can provide and we need all the help rushing the passer. It would be good if we can RS them both but with only 2 true edge rushers, they may be called upon often.

They'll both be needed for critical snaps as the season wears on because how our offense does...
The defense will be asked to play a lot of snaps.
Barron, Harrison and Young will need a blow.

These boys won't redshirt.
Neither will Bailey or Herring next season after that.

That's what I was telling people, look for 2025 for when where finally a Championship caliber team again.

You guys have never seen him played. This guy was the best rush end in the Atlanta are and can play the game. I would not be surprised to see him get some reps this Fall.
I watched two of their games (full games) last season and all of his highlights. No offense, but Atlanta area high school football is a far cry from the SEC. He'll be facing offensive linemen that will be in next year's NFL draft. Nevermind.... you think we're saying he's not elite, so you won't understand the enormous leap.

I hope you did not infer that I thought any high school player in his senior year would be playing in the SEC. However, a numbers of Atlanta area players will see some kind of playing time in the SEC as Freshmen. All are not automatic red shirt players as Freshmen. He has a good of a chance to see playing time of most Freshmen who play on a SEC team. Never said he would be a starter or a Freshman All American. I have seen a lot of Highschool football in Georgia. I lived there for 40 years and back when we could assist Tennessee coaches in scouting football players I took one of our coaches to scout a player every Friday night. My son is also a coach in the Atlanta area and his teams in the top class in the State. However, I guess different folks see different things in players. Since I moved back to East Tennessee 22 years ago, I still stream games and see games when I visit my kids and grand kids in the Atlanta area, so I get to see a lot of players.

I'm excited about Josephs. He was dominant last year and far more athletic than I think even many of our fans realize. The reason that I think he sees limited snaps this year i(outside of special teams) s due to strength. He wasn't an early enrollee.. He's a summer arrival and while he's already put on some good weight, I don't think he'll be strong enough to hold up at the line of scrimmage. I'd love to be wrong and see him contribute in situational packages. Yes, true freshman get playing time every year, but offensive and defensive lines are the hardest areas to adjust to at the collegiate level. So when those guys play its usually out of desperation.

I agree he would have a better chance to playing more if he was and EE.

For the record, I think he's a future star. His burst off the edge is ridiculous, and he has more length (longer arms) than his height would indicate. He also is a high motor kid, with a tenacious disposition on the field. Severely underrated in my opinion. I think many of the experts questioned if he could add enough weight and still maintain that explosiveness to be dominant at the next level.

Redshirts are less and less useful as players go to NFL early. If the player is going to be a star no need to redshirt them. If you redshirt them and they turn out to be a star they are gone after their redshirt junior year anyway.

They are still very useful when building a program, particularly for those that play on the line of scrimmage. Very few are physically ready at 18 to take on grown men with 3-4 years of development in the trenches.
