'18 GA LB JJ Peterson (Tennessee signee)

Trey Wallace, via periscope, prefaced this by saying he didn't know what the timeline was with JJ - and that he was also very tired of talking about a freshman who hasn't stepped on a college field yet - but he indicated that Peterson had been given the playbook and the conditioning program awhile back and hasn't really missed a beat in terms of that stuff while working on his academics. He even mentioned that he doesn't think it would take JJ more than a couple days to get up to speed "for the first game".

Idk he's gonna be pretty clearly behind guys like Bituli, DK, and Sapp if they put him at ILB. If they play him at OLB they may be able to simplify things a bit more for him since our OLBs job is primarily to get after the QB.

Seems like at this point if we get him on campus they may have to just try to pick their spots with him and maybe bring him along on STs as well.

Agreed.

I think ideally it’d be nice to let him learn and sit out the first 4 games and possibly have him ready to play UGA, Auburn, Bama and USCe. That’s when we’ll need depth. Obviously our judgement isn’t better than Pruitt’s, but i think it would be cool to let him play 4 games and then redshirt. Obviously this guy is probably talented to go pro after 3 years but injuries are unpredictable, so that ‘redshirt year’ would be valuable.

Just passing along what was said for discussion sake. I am with you, but derived some optimism from the fact that he's been giving the condition program and some plays to learn. I can't see the coaching staff doing that without feeling REALLY good about him being on campus at some point.

Poor Trey... all tuckered out from talking about JJ. Life can be hard sometimes

It's funny to see this report, because @VolBraniac had said this a while back.

I perused the last 5 pages of this thread and didn't see anyone mention what the 247 boys said on their podcast...so, SIAP, but this is what they said.

Patrick talked to Rush Probst last Wednesday, and was told he has class work he's finishing up, and that the last days of his class work were last Wednesday and Thursday. There are also "red tape" issues to go through, including the NCAA Eligibility Center (formerly the clearinghouse). They said that it's likely that his GPA was such that if he got a high enough standardized test score, he would be fine, and when he re-took the standardized test, the score wasn't high enough, so he had to raise his GPA to match his standardized test score.

Me typing here: He has to graduate high school. There are forms to fill out, grades to tally, and people have to be in the office to perform these tasks. Fall school hasn't started, so the staff on hand is likely a skeleton staff. AFTER he gets done with that, he has to go through the NCAA process before he'll be allowed to work out with the team.
