'19 GA OL Wanya Morris (Tennessee signee)

Dooley era recruiting? Come on, now. Not with this staff.

I like this staff, but if we miss a bowl it will be because the first half of our season was ugly against our toughest part of the schedule, and I just can’t imagine this staff being able to sustain momentum in that case. That may mean we’d be something like 2-5 headed into South Carolina week with early signing day less than 2 months away. If that happens this board will be in full meltdown mode and Pruitt’s name will be mud on talk radio. Again, I’m remembering the Schianomo. This fanbase seems to be done with rebuilds and mediocrity.

Good news is I don’t think that’s happening. I’m thinking Pruitt gets it done and we win 6 or 7, and he lands a solid top 10ish class.

From a fans perspective, if we can come away from the season with a 6 - 6 regular season, Pruitt should be a candidate for coach of the year. This comment is not a statement on the talent of our players, it is a statement about how much Pruitt and his staff have to get done in less than 1 year.

We are changing offenses, we are changing defenses, we lost our biggest contributor on offense and our biggest contributor on defense is coming off a lost season, our players on the OL are having to be retooled and we are dangerously short in capable bodies on the OL.

It is my feeling that recruits have and will continue to see the optimism amongst the players and coaches. They have already seen how hard this team works. Just my opinion, but from my perspective, my bigger concern is Pruitt losing the fan base if he does not produce a winning record the first season.

i take solace in looking at that 2013 schedule and roster, and knowing that we were one Vandy win away form going to a bowl in CBJ's first season.

and the schedule, it's pretty similar. play auburn, check. tough ooc game, check (WVU easier than @ Oregon), FL, GA, Bama games, check.

i think we can get 6.

6-6 isn’t getting anybody coach of the year, especially at this university.

Any good coach certainly won't want to deal with a disgruntled fan base, but I think it's a very, very safe bet Pruitt will ignore any premature grumbling and stick to his process.

He knows what he's doing, is confident in what he's doing, and he's been successful for a long time in what he's doing.

I realize and accept there are a significant number of folks/fans that want to see it proven to them...Pruitt likely understands that, but he will be wasting energy if he diverts from his plan in any fashion due to the first year challenges...which, by the way, are well known and even documented.

totally agree. and the other thing i'd add to that is he's not going in to 2018 w/out making attempts to address some pretty obvious issues on the roster. doesn't mean they'll get solved, but if 'effort' counts for anything in that regard, he's certainly doing that part. i.e., he's not sitting around calling this 'year 0'. there's an obvious and overt attempt to do what he can to win as much as possible, as early as possible, while also keeping an eye on the prize down the road.

Any fan that is hanging on this year's record to judge Pruitt is a mouth breather.

From SEC Country:

Auburn will receive Wanya Morris’ last official visit

As Wanya Morris closes in on his decision, the Auburn-Tennessee battle is as heated as ever.

“It’s really close,” Morris told SEC Country.

The 4-star tackle from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.) put out his top-2 list last month and hasn’t wavered from that. The Tigers and the Volunteers have recruited him heavily since, and he’s taken multi-day unofficial visits to both. His most recent trip to the Plains two weeks ago gave him extra opportunity to get to know coaches and players at Auburn.

It has helped the Tigers make a move.

“It’s just something about being there. I got to know the coaches more, some of the players. I feel really comfortable when I’m there,” Morris said.

Until that point, Tennessee was the favorite to land Morris. The Volunteers remain a major factor with two weeks remaining until his May 1 decision.

But Auburn has made it interesting.

In fact, Morris will take his official visit to Tennessee this weekend. Morris originally planned for that to be his final official visit, but his most recent trip to Auburn changed things. Now, Morris told SEC Country he’ll officially visit Auburn the weekend of April 27 — the final weekend before Morris announces his commitment.

That timing is important for Auburn. The Tigers will have the final opportunity to persuade Morris.

Perhaps the biggest factor playing in the Tigers’ favor: Center Jakai Clark.

Clark is Morris’ teammate at Grayson and committed to Auburn last week. Clark and Morris are close — really close. One source close to the situation told me that, prior to Clark’s recruitment taking off with Auburn, Tennessee was a clear favorite to land Morris. It has moved much more toward a 50-50 competition since the Morris three-day visit and Clark’s addition to the Tigers’ class.

I wonder how long it will take to "process" Clark if Morris chooses us?

That commitment screams package deal. I think his next best offer is Boston College.
