'21 GA OLB Smael Mondon (georgia commit)

So yesterday morning @Atlanta VOL says we’re still talking with him every day, but then someone essentially says “recruiting is fluid”, he likes the post because it’s a good post, and everyone assumes he’s tipping his hat implying that Mondon is going to do the same thing Owen Pappoe did. That’s silly

Not the point being made by him or me if that’s what everyone is assuming. I don’t think they are.

Battered Vol syndrome is real. We can be quite a fickle fan base.

I think the implication being made here is more along the lines that telling people what they want to hear happens more often than many think. While Pappoe did this to us, as did Jay Hardy, I believe that AV's belief is that while Mondon has likely told at least two schools he is coming, that we are on the Auburn end of the Pappoe/Hardy treatment, this time. "Part of the game" refers to the idea that kids are deceitful in recruiting, but AV seems confident, and has seemingly been "in the room" with Mondon.

I have said for some time this had a Darnell Washington feel to it, for me. AV has explained why he believes this to be a different case, so my stock in AV's intel takes a hit if this one backfires. Admittedly, AV is only as good as the info he gets, which is seemingly very firsthand. So, it isn't necessarily faith in AV's information that I lose, it's more of the faith in his ability to properly read the intentions and agendas of these kids and their handlers. I don't think he just takes every kid's word at face value, as he has told us before when he believes our staff is being fed a line of bull. However, I think he does enjoy helping these kids and most often wants the best and tries to see the best in them, perhaps being blinded to their true character, at times. Again, see Jay Hardy.

The problem with this statement is a kid's intentions are fluid too. He could 100% being feeling TN today and flip to Auburn tomorrow. They're teenagers. What they want, why they want it, all of this is subject to flip at a moment's notice. Teenagers are fickle.

I guess I feel like we are essentially saying the same thing, which is that kids are fickle. And that is the case many times. There are some cases, though, where kids are just outright deceitful. I believe that to be the case with Hardy. He may have been coerced by his parents/coaches/handlers to do so, but he didn't just "change his mind". He lied and schemed behind the scenes to play Tennessee's coaches.

The only part of your post I don't agree with is the idea that a kid can be 100% School A, and the next day flips to School B. The kid was never 100% if he flips that easily and that quickly. Retreating off of a strong, 100% commitment takes time and a lot of effort from another influential party. I think kids, certainly, and many adults, as well, throw around commitment levels of "100%" quite flippantly, when in reality, it's more like 55%.

The one thing about the Jay Hardy recruitment is that I believe it was Hubbs or Price who was notified the night before to shoot his announcement to UT and then we ended up getting screwed overnight which I believe AV alluded to Auburn getting to Jay Hardy's father. What happened thereafter as we tried to "flip" him was a dick move by Hardy though.

Initially, yes. The time between his initial commitment and the late signing period was perpetuated by Jay, himself. He could have just told Tennessee to stop recruiting him, but he continued to flirt with Tennessee and led our coaches to believe they had a chance to sway him when that was NEVER going to happen.

That's exactly what happened and also why AV made the comment of Jay burning bridges.

He also told TN recruits and players also. He and dad lied to everyone. On April Fools day he did an Instragram saying he did not get into Auburn and was coming to TN. Guy obviously has issues or is just a sorry piece of crap

True. It’s why I liked your post saying that.
