$1.23. For 1996.Here’s how much gas cost the year you started driving
Look up the price of a gallon of gas by year
1981
- Absolute gas price: $1.38
- Inflation-adjusted price: $4.14 (#4 most expensive year in 85-year span)
$1.23. For 1996.
It was cheaper than that in the Tri though. I remember routinely paying .95 - .99 cents a gallon up through the end of the 90s.
I graduated HS in 98. The Vols won titles in football and women's basketball. It was a big year.Yep. For 1998 it is showing 1.06 or so, but I remember filling up for high .70s to high .80s for quite a few of my first months driving in south GA. The article says '98 was the cheapest year out of 85 of them, in terms of inflation-adjusted prices. Between that and the the Vols' national championship, I guess some folks were right when they told me, "These are the best years of your life, it's all downhill from here." HA!
We love Aldi. Fill the cart all the way up for $160.Can't live in the past. Sunday in Cookeville ranging 3.77-3.85 average. Scalpers still up in 3.90 plus.
I did pay 3.45 at Kroger yesterday, but I spent alot of money on groceries this past month to get that. Didn't actually save any money overall. It's an illusion. I used to try and explain to my dad if they'd shop at Aldi, and pay normal pump prices, they'd spend less money than shopping Kroger just to get hte gas discount.
The produce at my Aldi is about half the price as my local Food City. Bread, eggs, snacks, canned goods...all waaayyy cheaper at Aldi.I don’t feel like I save money at Aldi. The produce is about the same price but doesn’t look as good. Then I end up buying a bunch snacks and stuff that I wouldn’t buy at Kroger.
My wife said the same thing. Told her Aldi as a kid was cheap knock off in St. Louis of cheap off brands back in the late 80's.I don’t feel like I save money at Aldi. The produce is about the same price but doesn’t look as good. Then I end up buying a bunch snacks and stuff that I wouldn’t buy at Kroger.

Yep, we do the exact same thing.Aldi is not a one stop shop. But if you buy hte exact same list there, and any other store of your choosing, it will be much less. I always go there first, then somewhere else if needed. I don't mind because from Aldi, Kroger is accross the street, Walmart down the street, Publix about 1.5 miles, and Food Lion on way back home. Doesn't add too much to my shopping for hte money I can save. My wife is impatient and gives our blood to Walmart every trip. I prefer to do the shopping.
