I'm starting to think they are being patient and thorough with their evaluations because projecting QBs is extremely difficult and important. Also, going all in on a single recruit that is 2 years out seems very unnecessarily risky.
I get that. It's just we are just so thin at QB right now. The story is we aren't high in any QB in 2019 and we were going to sell that to class of 2020 especially since Shrout seemed like a last minute pickup which wasn't thought out. Well 2020 is primed for a big QB, we landed a top QBs favorite HS target and now people are reporting oh well he might not be wanted even though he's good enough for Urban and Harbaugh. Its extremely early but the "he's not high on the board" line is starting to make me wonder.
I still have confidence in this class and I think we need some games with this staff to sell to recruits until we get this train a rolling, I'm just getting anxious
Who knows how much of that story is true though. We'll probably know more as the summer camps go on and names we haven't seen will pop up.
I am about to the point where I just read this board to see if Atlanta Vol is in a thread talking about a soon to be commitment.
2 months ago this was the guy. He was probably a silent commit. We weren't taking a guy in this class because of it etc...
Then he takes a trip up north and has since been seen in Michigan gear at a practice and the VQ writers start this "we aren't all in on him crap."
The kid is the best qb in one of the best states for high school competition. We aren't all in? I highly doubt that. Not unless Helton thinks he can get the kid out of California that is ranked higher than this one.
i don't know how not taking a guy this year because of a next year prospect is a strategy that in any way sounds like something a coach would do. It's a story someone made up to make themselves feel better about losing that carolina qb to fsu. People ran with it and it became a vn fact. There are new 2019 qbs that will be popping up all summer. Why does going all in on one prospect that is 2 years out sound like a good strategy? How do we know he's the best in his class when there will be many talented qbs that will get their 1st opportunities as a junior this season. Rumors of silent commits and wearing michigan gear don't really mean much.
