'20 GA QB Harrison Bailey (UT SIGNEE)

I just don't think HB will be the starter next year. I think it will be either JG or Hill. I would lean toward JG simply because he has the potential for excellent play, even though it is Jekyl and Hyde.

If I were coaching (and I am probably the best couch coach in America) I would lean toward starting Hill (assuming he is an avg. qb) and bring JG in if Hill wasn't producing. JMO
Hill only completed 49% of his passes his SO year playing 10 games. He was coming off the injury, but that is horrifically poor.

Well, coming off the injury and two years removed. I would think he has matured and gotten better. Remains to be seen how he will do in the spring. The past has no significance, obviously to our coaching staff as evidenced by continually playing JG.

So JG can't improve and mature but Hill can?

To everyone already anxious to know who will start... don't plan on knowing until late August. If it happens to be HB... you could be looking at a QB room going from 6 to 2 over the summer if they announce it.

IMHO, if they don't say JG out of spring then that's a really bad sign for him.

With Bailey arriving in Spring as an EE, if his wrist is good to go and he already has the playbook, as long as he knows how to take care of the ball I think he beats out the other QBs. If that happens JG is definitely transferring.

Can’t wait til Spring Game. That offers a nice window.
Sometimes it doesn't.

I learned that lesson the year after Ainge's collapse in 2005. Fans made a big deal over Crompton taking the job. Reports came out that Ainge wasn't accurate. He had a terrible spring game and JC looked good.

The truth is that Cut was challenging them at completely different levels. We found that out when Ainge torched a highly ranked Cal team.

It could be that someone, particularly HB, could look great simply because he's talented and running a simple playbook against base D's since that's where he's at. Others could look worse because they're being challenged differently.

It does matter to an extent who comes out first with the 1's.

If they announce him in the spring... they may have no one besides him and Holiday.

I'm not convinced though that he will beat the others out. Maurer and Shrout both have arm talent. If they can get Maurer to settle down... he's got a real shot.

I hope they've learned on JG.... we'll see.

You start it everywhere... until it goes against you. Then you want "rules".

I start it here because it is relevant to the current conversation... and you're the head cult worshiper.
I don't. I correct people who start things and say falsehoods. We can debate JG in the many deabqt threads.

It's sad that several of you can't help but to take shots at our qb when ever you get a chance.

I’m honestly not impressed with Maurer. If Shrout learns to not throw the ball across his body he has a better chance of starting then Maurer, Shrout has way more arm talent. But yeah.

No. You lie and distort. That's what you do. You do it everywhere.

It is sad that you refuse to see the obvious. He stank it up. He looked like the JG from early in the season. He validated his poor performance against Vandy. As the announcer says, he has to "see it" before throwing rather than reading and anticipating. He appeared to do that better for a few games... but was way late way too often vs a subpar Big 10 D.
I agree.Jg is a great kid and tough as nails. That being said he waits way to long to deliver the ball.By the time he sees a receiver come open it's to late.

I agree and that is why I like to base it off my own eyes, I want to to base it off who they play (1s/2s), how does the arm strength look? Etc..

I’ve been there the last couple years and I think it’s a great time, and it’s fun to see these young kids in person side by side with the others. One thing that really stuck out to me was how big Quavarious Crouch was compared to others. The staffs ability to evaluate talent them develop them (which was fully on display this year) has really impressed me.

I really wish they could move Crouch to RB. Maybe they'll have enough depth to give him a shot this fall?

This is my pet peeve that irritates me in the JG debate on here! Someone always puts up some meaningless stats. The ONLY stat that I care about is POINTS on the board!!
I don’t care if he goes 10 for 10 on a drive from the 2 yard line to the other 15 yard line.
Then he is going to throw a little high, late, behind, low, or something and miss on a TD and we settle for 3.
Way to many games putting up way less points than we should for me to care about any of his other “stats”
Ok but if the QB is no good at getting them into the RZ (between the 20s), then RZ efficiency doesn't matter.

It's both.

Fwiw we were 4th in the SEC in RZ TD% last year...yet we scored less.

Imo a year of Chaney acclimation. We'll either do better next season or have something legitimate to critique.

Getting more and more comfortable with the idea. Did not want him unless he played LB. Always happy to be wrong...just not much practice. 😎

I've seen a few highights of him at LB. He looked good there.

But he also looked good at RB. He and Crouch are the perfect complimentary for each other because they can both play O or D, but each wants to play one side.
