What rumors on Boley?its a huge, program stabilizing get. massive. Regardless of Nico's ability, our QB room is THIN, and transfer qb's are the toughest to evaluate. We are an injury away in 2 years from needing quality depth. Let's face it, we are TN and injuries do not go our way.
Will also secure us a top 3 WR class which we will need every year as long as we run this system imo. If the Cutter Boley rumors are true as well, it looks like we are setting ourselves up for a hell of a QBU run in the 2020's...
There are no promises of seniority at the upper echelon of competition. The best player will play. If you want to be the best, you should work for it and hope to play, so you can face competition and get the exposure you need to take the next step. If you go to a top program and are fine with riding the pine for 3 years while the next 3 years worth of potential Nicos are recruited, that’s on you for banking your career on 1-2 years of playing time 3-4 years from now. I personally wouldn’t buy that. However, I would buy that Milton will be gone next year and then Nico is the only one in front of you. Compete your butt off, and if Nico is injured you are starting. Then you have a window from your 2nd to 3rd year in the program to reevaluate if you still like where you stand in the pecking order after the next two years classes are signed. That’s the opposite of saying I’m going to recruit over you. That’s saying I’m preserving more of your eligibility so you don’t have to beat out the guy with seniority (and more experience) in order to start 2-3 years…Just as I don’t expect a younger guy to beat you out when you have seniority over him.
The only part of this I disagree with is targeting a redshirt sophomore year start (which based on this concept could really be redshirt junior if Milton plays well and nico also ends up redshirting his freshman year having only appeared in 4 games or less).A RS isn't what it used to be. AgreedJM could play 4 games and preserve his RS. If Nico performs as many expect then JM is a RS Soph when he gets his shot to start. If Nico does not perform at that level or gets hurt then JM gets a shot even earlier.
This is not a bad deal for him. There are a number of ways he can make it work very well. If it doesn't then the purpose of the portal is to let guys rectify bad decisions.
Btw I never said it was a stupid question so hope the op didn’t take it that way now that you’ve inferred that. I just think it would be a bit of a stretch to say that merk significantly helps us with those prospects without knowledge of a very close relationship between the 3.No, I’m not from Georgia. But highly rated recruits tend to know each other. They don’t have to be from the same state. National camp circuits have created relationships that wouldn’t have existed 20 years ago. Hubbs has talked about this very thing, as nauseum.
Again, JM may not affect the other two, but it’s not a stupid question. Hell, Nico was a pull for Mauigoa and they were on opposite ends of the country. It wasn’t ultimately enough to land FM, but it was a well-documented plus for Tennessee.
Within that same thought process you could say that a player from florida or alabama or Tennessee is equally as likely to know merk as Matthews and Calhoun are.I don’t think the fact that they are 4 hours from each other makes any difference here. Top players travel all over the place these days for 7on7 tournaments, camps, etc. I’m not saying they know each other well, but I would venture to say they have met before.
