'24 GA QB Jake Merklinger (Tennessee)

This kid is a leader and looks like the next in line at qb to succeed on the Hill when his name is called. I think back to Jarrett G’s commitment video in time square to now, WOW! We went from a qb room of Peterman, Worley, Ferguson, Dobbs (the outlier) and JG to Hooker who was the lone holdover and now we know the bridge to immediate and future success at the qb position. Joe, Nico, Jake and let the list continue to grow as QBs start WANTING to play at Tennessee again. I am all in. It’s the first time in a long time it’s hard not to be all in on this football program.

Dude is gonna be a stud here

The University of Tennessee commit has all the physical tools with good size at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, a strong, accurate arm and a football IQ that is off the charts. His ability to lead also sets him apart, as the consensus No. 7 ranked quarterback in the country prepares for his senior campaign. "Jake has played a lot of football games for us, and he just keeps getting better every year," Calvary Day coach Mark Stroud said. "I thought he really settled in last year, and everything seemed to slow down for him. He was playing in a different gear than everyone else around him."

...He has thrown for 75 touchdowns and 6,607 yards in his three years behind center. But Merklinger is always looking for ways to improve, whether he is analyzing film, working in the weight room or going through drills with his receivers in practice. "I'm trying to be more consistent with everything I do," Merklinger said. "From carrying my fakes out to my footwork and my accuracy. I want to be more consistent and not make a good play here and a bad play there. I want to stack my quality reps."

...Arnold said Merklinger is extremely accurate with all his throws, and brings an added dimension to the offense with his ability to analyze defenses on the fly. "Jake makes his pre-snap reads, but if something doesn't work he has that ability to come off it and make a big play," Arnold said. "He's a great quarterback and a great leader."

..."What impresses me most about Jake is his poise and his leadership," Cameron said after a recent practice. "And he's got a fiery edge to him, which I absolutely love. It's contagious and the kids follow him. He has a great knowledge of the game — he constantly texting me with ideas for plays, he's always thinking about it."

Truthfully Worley was a Gatorade POY but unanimous 3* that Spurrier never offered even being an instate POY. Dobbs( High 4* on 247) and Ferguson ( 4*ESPN) were 4* on atleast 1 site or more. JG was a very high 4* on Rivals and 247, plus was the #1 DT QB on 247 with offers from TN, Ala, Fla and Aub to name a few. Peterman was also a 4* on Rivals and 247 Composite. Hell he's simular to dobbs as far as an NFL career. Both are on Rosters and have been most years they've been in the pro's. Point is QB ratings and Evals are as hard as it comes. We've had highly rated guys that other big name schools wanted that never panned out. Worley's issue was his lack of arm strength, but still made some NFL rosters. Peterman and Ferguson never got a fighting chance other than a bad start against Fla. No need to mention what Dobb's did here, but had a solid career in spite of Butch Jones.

Gmac or Deuce will have to take it from this guy
I'm getting greedy wanting to continue great QB recruiting, then forget about this guy

Two years on the roster…gonna be a tough out. Think someone remarkably talented is going to wait their turn behind him.

Absolutely! I'm very high on this kid. Wouldn't surprise me if he eventually beats out Nico. And no, I'm not saying he will. It wouldn't surprise me though if he did. I believe we will have one of the better QB rooms in cfb.

Ranking: No. 95 nationally, No. 8 QB

"Merklinger was off this week after Calvary Day beat Savannah (Ga.) Islands High 49-8 on Aug. 18. It was an easy outing for Merklinger, who was 9-of-16 passing for 199 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions."

I love how we have a top 10 QB coming in and many to most think he’s an automatic career back up 😂

Who? I’m sure there are some but most of the posts I’m reading think he’s going to be a great QB for us once it’s his time to start. I’m certainly very excited to have Merk coming to play for us.

“Merklinger and Calvary Day took care of business in a big way Friday night, beating Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (Ga.) 64-6 after taking a 30-0 lead at the half. Meanwhile, his future Tennessee team also looked solid offensively against Virginia on Saturday, going a perfect 7-for-7 in the red zone for 49 points.

Merklinger, who has already been selected to play in the 2024 Polynesian Bowl, was 16-of-22 passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns. His completion percentage through two games is up to 65.8 percent, and he has seven touchdowns against zero interceptions. He also had six carries for 44 yards and a touchdown against Eagle’s Landing. This week, Calvary Day travels to Charlotte Christian (N.C.).”
