'24 GA QB Jake Merklinger (Tennessee)

Different reasoning for not attending, or for still being a 5*?
Recruiting sites have different reasoning why someone is ranked where they are every year. It’s not consistent. They have dropped players for not attending camps, but kept manning the #1 player for nearly the entire cycle. When Merk didnt attend the elite 11, he dropped behind other qb’s that attended. They also “bump” guys over the years who are trending towards certain schools.

You're correct on recruitng sites and their unreasonable "reasoning". I just don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he makes a major jump on one or two sites, based on his actual on field play.

I hope you are right, but look at spillman’s ranking. Dude consistently rose to 95 rating last November. And has dropped to 90 during the offseason when nothing is happening. I think a lot of the time, they change rankings to keep their paying subscribers engaged during the year.

"Merklinger and his Calvary Day School picked up a third consecutive 30-plus-point victory over the weekend. After taking care of Islands High from Savannah, 49-8, in Week 1 and Eagle’s Landing (Ga.) Christian Academy in Week 2, Calvary Day beat Charlotte (N.C.) Christian 41-10 on Friday night. Merklinger was 10-of-15 passing for 272 yards and two touchdowns. He also was particularly effective with his legs, running the ball eight times for 78 yards and two more touchdowns to match his yardage production from the first two games combined.

His favorite play?

“We were on about the 25-yard line and I kept the ball on a zone read and I made one guy miss,” Merklinger said. “I get down to about the 2-yard line and one guy wraps me up and as I’m falling into the end zone, the safety … cleaned my clock.”

For the season, Merklinger is 35-of-53 passing for 704 yards and nine touchdowns against zero interceptions. On the ground, the Tennessee commit has 16 carries for 156 yards and three touchdowns.

Calvary Day hosts Liberty County (Ga.) High on Friday.

“This is my senior year, and I think I would be lying to you if I said (my goal) wasn’t to win every game we played,” Merklinger said. “We want to win the state championship, and if we continue to work, we think we can do it.”
