'21 GA RB Cody Brown

I was ok with it. IF he made it to the line he usually gained decent yardage.
yeah, if i had to guess i'd say 80% of the time, if not more, first contact was at the LOS or behind it....

we were not good up front, and definitely not suited for a power runnner in a zone blocking/spread....

i hated the way he handled the situation in 16, but i honestly felt bad for him too.

Hurd, in Fulmer/Cut's offense would have been fantastic. he'd be fantastic in this offense.

He'll be better than Hurd. I'm so excited about having this guy I don't know why we keep talking about the past

dude...i'd say 85% of the runs Hurd made were in to a wall of bodies. there wasn't much to see lol.

the few times he did get in to space, he generally made things happen...that run against UGA in 15 where he trucked the safety herchel style...was awesome.

personally , i loved hurds running style. he was hard as hell to tackle, he never stopped moving his feet/legs, and was really, really physical at contact.

agree with @butchna on the formation stuff. he was never ever used correctly except in that one game.
Sometimes yes but it was pretty much the same thing every play. Even when holes there wrong choices were made. He expected size wise to be the difference on hole or no hole there. Cut back ability was not good for his height was a hindrance. Smaller back with more quick could have made a little more happen. Hey I like the guy and I will not say all him just bad times and schemes.

and every bit of that has a lot more to do with the system/style than it does ability of the runner.

in all honesty, Hurd made a mistake coming here knowing what we know now. he wasn't/isn't a spread RB. he's a power guy, I formation back. Kamara by all rights should have been the feature back. style fits system. it's easy to blame hurd i guess, but i truly felt bad for hte kid. CBJ should carry most of the baggage for what happened with hurd imo.

i said it a lot while he was here...he got "dirty" yards. never clean. the fact he was able to move up the all time rushing charts like he did here, in spite of the consistent 1st contact stats kinda amazed me to be honest. McGill is correct he did get a ton of carries, and that helps. but he grinded out yards that really werent there a lot of times.

anyway, it's water under the bridge now....hated how it ended for him, hated that he allowed it to play out like he did....that's the only thing i really blame him for. in a situation where a lot wasn't in his control, the one thing he could control was his reaction and how he handled things. and i don't know this to be true, but i'd bet he'd agree with that now, and would handle it different if he could.

I liked Hurd, thought he was a tough hard nosed runner. However, he did not have the talents to be a great running back. Line wasn’t great but he didn’t have the vision to hit the seams when they were there. I’d bet a large sum of money CBJ promised him I formation after the NorthWestern gave and then lied. Don’t blame any player for leaving when a coach lies to them. Him and family didn’t do themselves any favors by throwing shade at Kamara and other comments on social media. Would have been smart to have thanked the University and fans for all their support and that you were leaving because CBJ promised you opportunities to run out of the I formation but didn’t deliver and also wouldn’t allow you to try out at receiver. Glad he got a chance elsewhere and a chance in the NFL

Remember the bowl game when Hurd lined up in the 'I' formation for a number of Carrie's? He looked dominant (granted it was against Northwestern, I believe), but it would have been nice to see that set used a whole lot more than it was.
That Northwestern defense was highly ranked though if I remember correctly.

Had no problem with Hurd at RB at Tennessee. He was really really good. Potentially great.

I liked him but was also frustrated with him at times. He seemed like a big back who wanted to be a little back. He spent too much time dancing around and trying to avoid contact. When you’re a 230+ lb rb, just put your head down and truck some fools. Of course that style makes more sense now that we know he wanted to be a wr pretty much all along. Also, he was constantly getting hit in the backfield because our O-line couldn’t consistently run block. Oh, and our offensive system was garbage.

How quickly people forget the trash offense Hurd played in and the head coach he played for.

Yeah, let's take a 240 lb battering ram of a tailback and run him left and right around end. The defense won't ever figure it out.

Every 3 yard gain Hurd got was all because of effort, because most of the time he was getting hit in the backfield before even having a chance to get to the line of scrimmage.

Now, do I believe he made the right move to leave? If that's what he thought was best for him, sure. I didn't care for how he did it in the middle of the season, but then again, I have to remember the idiot head coach he played for too.

Go back and watch, he looked for contact ALL THE TIME. He was out of place as a shotgun back and played for a poor line. His only knock was slow acceleration and sort of slow lateral quickness. But saying he danced and avoided contact is completely false.
