Come on. You're better than that. You were mistaken and overly negative. It happens to everyone. Own it. You suggested they had failed and they came through with a few guys.

...
I thought he ws just doing his usual reverse mojo shtick that he does every pre-signing day???

Feel like he’s a bigger back but still has that versatility to play successfully in this offense. Think Sampson is the type of back to go out into the slot, or come back inside and run. Got a good couple of running backs this cycle. Then Desean Bishop next cycle, so got some good potential with our running backs

What really separates him from so many great players out there is the fact that he’s such a good human being. You’re going to hear Justin say, ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir.’ He’s going to say ‘I love you.’ He doesn’t big-time his teammates or people in the hallways. It’s so easy for a high-profile athlete to get a little too big for their britches. In four years of high school, I’ve never seen him do that. To me, that’s extra unique.

Finally, something that I think is really cool. He’s in the top-2 or 3 of his senior class. He has a 4.0. So, he is just the total package. He is a good player but he is a great human being. It’s so refreshing to see a great player who is humble and has a warrior’s mentality, but one who also loves people and who is super respectful.

Tennessee is getting a special kind of guy.”

--- Billy Shackelford, East Paulding High School head football coach

Gotta admit, I read that and got a little verklempt.

I really need to go out in the woods and shoot at something.
If I’m a small or medium business in Easy Tennessee and across the state and I wanted to provide NIL deals for exposure, there aren’t any better types of kids than these that I would invest money on to represent my business.

Kudos to AD White, Heup and the rest of the organization rebuilding the Tennessee brand and culture to one that we can all pull together with.

A VQ poster shared this post from a UGA board…

I didn't get the normal ESD time to follow things like usual, as I was actually with my Godson yesterday. His name is Justin Williams, and he is a 4 star tailback here in GA. My wife and I took him in when he was 6, and he has blessed our lives many times over. He is from New York originally. His Half Brother died a very tragic death when Justin was in New York, and it really affected him. His Mother divorced and moved to Georgia. My son loved him instantly, and a true brother was gained and born, and we have enjoyed being a part of his life. He went through some tough times. During 5th grade he got angry about the death of Jared. I sat under a basketball goal one Friday night and we ironed some things out. He went on to become a 4.0 student, is 4th in his class and an EE. He chose The University Of Tennessee yesterday over Auburn. My son actually wanted me to share this here. It has a bit of the Blindside storyline, although we had no idea he would be a star football player when he met him. We just loved him. He calls my wife Mama and he relies on her wisdom about everything.

So, for the foreseeable future, we will hope he does well, except against our beloved Dawgs. Needless to say, we are proud for him. Coach Murphy, the softball Coach at Alabama is one of my friends, and he uses the term MUDITA. This is simply rejoicing in the accomplishments of others. I will do this for Justin. One time, and one time only, for a little boy that stole my heart a long time ago, and has became an outstanding person and football player, I uttered the curse words Go VOLS yesterday. Only once. Never again.

4.0 GPA to me says this is a kid who’s going to put in the work in the film and weight rooms, and will likely be good at the details of a running back’s game: vision, pass blocking, and route running. Good players have the physical tools. Great players have the mental tools as well.
In many cases it is evidence of discipline as much or more than intelligence. You are correct. It is a good sign for his work ethic in football too.

I didn't know that his grades were that good but I wonder how deep that thread runs. Phillips was apparently a great student in HS. Webb will finish in the top 5 of his class. Sampson says that his HS GPA is more than his 40 time. Pattern is apparent- good leaders (10 HS captains plus state champs), high character, good students, good athletes, good work ethic.... We'll see how that formula competes

It is, indeed, an impressive achievement, but a 4.0 GPA today doesn’t necessarily mean what it did when we were in high school, given the differential weight applied to grades in Advanced Placement courses.

“For example, an A in AP Physics is worth more than an A in a standard physics class. This difference in value is meant to account for the increased amount of work required to achieve the same grade in advanced or honors classes.

At most schools, the highest weighted GPA you can achieve is a 5.0. But there are also some schools that go up to 6.0. Either way, achieving that maximum GPA is unlikely. Why? Because it would mean that, throughout high school, you only took advanced or honors level classes and got an A in every single one” (Weighted vs Unweighted GPA: Which One’s Best for College Admissions? — Stellarlane Blog | Where the best online tutors teach).

Understood... this still looks more promising than a lot of the guys that Jones and Pruitt got us all excited about.
