'22 GA RB Justin Williams (Cal)

Whitehead is sssllloooowwww

We were at that S Alabama game near to the field and he looked like he was running through mud in the fourth quarter. Got tackled from behind. Hadn’t seen that since Marlin Lane graduated.

My dad (who doesn’t watch many games and is no analyst) even leaned over and said, is something wrong with him - he’s slow!
He also ran over some people.

can stand to be slow if you run people over

I think I'd rather have a slow RB that can truck someone than a slow LB that can't cover a RB or TE.

He nay not see the field after these freshman develop and mature a little.

I expect Small and Wright to be the main 2 backs next year unless Sampson or Williams come in and sets the world on fire.

It probably doesn't mean anything, but it looked like Beckwith was running 3rd in drills yesterday.
This kid and Sampson will see quality snaps, especially as the season goes on, and they prove they can play...I believe they're #3 and 4 as soon as they step on campus. Beckwith and Whitehead got recruited over the moment those two signed.

They definitely have the talent. It will come down to how fast they adapt to college life and speed of the game. One of the biggest adjustments is pass blocking. They are both super intelligent, so the playbook shouldn't be an issue.

Williams won't be for bowl practice because he can't play in the bowl game. He's just getting a feel of what practice is like and being told what he needs to work on. Just getting it early by a couple months

Yeah, I know he can't play in the bowl. Guess I should have said, as soon as they become eligible to play...just went with the old saying, "as soon as they step foot on campus".

I am too emotionally attached to Beckwith to give up on a guy with 3 or 4 years left(not sure since last year did not count at all and I don't know if he played in 4 games this year) whose bandwagon I jumped on way before his signing day. Sure looks like Tarzan and has not yet played enough to call Jane. I never saw him as an every down back, but can see a flexibile hybid role as tailback, H-back, and split out big receiver. Don't have a clue what the staff has told him, but they sure kept him in the RB room for some reason. Of course, if not in the plans, he would become a portal candidate. If he does not produce it will not be the first time a fav did not work out.

Whenever Small went out, Evans came in. Whenever Evans went out, Wright came in. Whenever Wright went out, Whitehead came in. Whenever Whitehead went out, Pierce (a walk-on) came in. Now the arrival of two stud RB. You have your answer, my friend.

There's been some rumors that Beckwith doesn't like contact, idk how true those rumors are...if they're not true, everyone clamoring for Whitehead to move to LB should think of Beckwith moving there...size AND speed.

We should know after the bowl game I think, if the staff has whispered nice things in his ear. If not, they will need a bunch of guys to hit the portal to get the counters down, and if enough do, we need some to get quickly scooped up to earn some of those new replacements and I think he would find some D1 landing spots. I don't see him returning with no light at the end of the tunnel. The depth chart you layed out has made me wonder if they were doing the redshirt thing.

They are not going to try to fool some guys not on the radar and keep the counter numbers to high to get replacements and depth is not an issue in that room. Whitehead had quite the SPARQ scores at camps too. Always wanted him to succeed as an in your face to Kirby since he played HS in the shadows of doggie land park. Oh well. Love both our new guys. If we took a shot at James I think the writing would be on the wall too.

LBs afraid of contact are worse than RBs afraid of contact. LBs hit, thats their job and why you move guys like Banks there, not Beckwith.

Also I imagine we see Beckwith in the bowl game and he either proves he can potentially carve out a role in the offense or will flop and transfer during the spring.

Crazy so many kids able to practice. Been a while since we have been able to do that and usually when done not this many kids. Really going to give this staff a good idea early if what they have and need to get
Looks like another piece of their recruiting profile. They do seem to have signed more EE's than the last two coaches typically did.

Hence, "if the rumors are not true", move him there.

Learning to read is a wonderful thing, opens a whole new world to you; but, thank you for the breakdown of the LB position...I had no idea they have to hit. You would think after watching and playing the game for 35 years, I would have known that.
