-Matt RayJonathan Echols looks more fluid as a route runner this fall as he is settling in more at the tight end position. However, like most young tight ends, he still has to embrace the blocking aspect of the position. This is not to say that he cannot, because he definitely has the size and ability to do so, but it was something he struggled with at times on Friday. Of note, he did play through an injury most of the second half after a bone crunching hit from Edwin Spillman on the IMG sideline. Echols recruitment remains status quo.
pay wall.
“I have shut it down,” Echols told On3. “At one time, you could say I was listening to other schools a little bit and I did take an official visit to Florida in June, but I am back all in with Tennessee now. I was never really considering it, but decommitting did cross my mind once or twice. That is recruiting.
“Other schools were calling, but once I went back to Tennessee for my official visit, I knew that is where I want to be. It feels like home every time I am at Tennessee and that is where I want to be.”
“Me and my family thought about things, we talked it out, and coming out of that visit, I knew I wasn’t going to change my mind or look around anymore. Other schools were still calling and wanting me to visit, but I am not taking anymore visits.
“The future is so bright at Tennessee and I want to be a part of that. The talent is there, this class will be great and my time at Tennessee is going to be special. There is a lot going on at Tennessee right now under Coach Heupel and it is exciting to be committed to the Vols.”
c.simmons“It is all about the people at Tennessee,” Echols added. “That is what makes Tennessee special. They are just different. Everyone works together. It will be a big family when I get there.
If the top recruits are noticing the change then that lets the dominoes start to fall and we will not only have a great culture etc but it will be with some of the absolute best talent in the country year in and year out. There are a lot of coaches and fan bases that have that feeling in their stomach now. It’s not a matter of if it is going to happen. It more now a question of when it is going to happen.c.simmons
