'21 GA WR Julian Nixon (Tennessee signee)

No doubt our commits are hearing from other coaches that the class is almost full and that they might get dropped. If you're a young man hearing this from other coaches while Tennessee has gone from calling you every day to maybe 2-3 times per week...then some doubt can start creeping in. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes, so it's not a good idea to criticize Nixon.

I'm a firm believer in the idea that social media has raised a generation of mentally soft young men and women. I'm not terribly old myself, but it's frustrating to see so many of Gen Z depend heavily on digital affirmation in order to stay motivated and content. I have the utmost confidence that our staff isn't purposely ignoring this kid.

As others before me have said, the likely scenario is they have turned some of their attention to other, uncommitted prospects to try and bring them on board, and discussions with Julian have dropped to a more weekly basis than daily basis just because of bandwidth issues. I'm sure our staff let him know that, thus the most recent tweet, but it's also annoying that any moment a kid feels frustrated they turn to social media to air dirty laundry. Grow up.

Everyone always tries to blame “this generation”. Well this generation didn’t raise themselves. Nor did social media raise them.

Well, obviously Gen Z didn't give birth to themselves and raise themselves, but at some point personal accountability should become a thing. Prior to quarantine young adults spend most of their day away from their parents and around their peers at school. Practically everyone has a smart phone and internet access in their pocket now, so yes this is a generation raised by social media. Prior to the coining of the phrase Gen Z most referred to this current generation as iGen (i.e. iPhone Generation).

There are studies out there showing that young men and women largely get their news from outlets like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. You may not like to hear it, but social media has an immense influence on the growth of young people.

I get my news from VolNation. Is that okay?

I trust the coaches plan.
Kid is a prospect, but we need Brashard Smith much more.
Another super athlete at CB too.
Or another Jalin Hyatt deep threat.

Last time I checked parents aren’t required by law to give their kids a smart phone. That’s a parenting decision. And apparently a bad one.

I’m not - do I have to be to have an opinion?
before you get all "gen z defensive"....no....people form opinons on things w/out having a frame of reference all the time.

but it does help knowing that, before deciding to engage in the discussion.

it's like my youngest brother trying to tell me what i should do as a parent....or home owner....or married person.

it's great advice....from a single, non parent, renter....so i take it with a "nod" and large grain of salt....and just move on with my life.

which is probably what i'll probably do here.

I’m not being Gen Z defensive. I’m not even part of gen z. I’m 34, married, with a mortgage. Just for reference.

My issue is everyone always blaming younger generations for things they don’t like, when in reality the generation that is complaining is the generation that raised them.

Plenty of things I don’t like about Gen Z. But I blame their parents for never telling them no. I blame their parents for not instilling in them that confidence comes from within and being comfortable with yourself and not from the admiration of others, whether it be on a social media platform or elsewhere. Again, just my opinions.

And I would absolutely recommend taking other’s opinions with a grain of salt. We all should. I mean we’re all here on a message board giving opinions about stuff that we don’t really know about.

How many on this board were recruited to a big time college football program in the best conference? Not many I would assume. But we all play on this board all day throwing our opinions around like we know what’s up. And I love it, but it doesn’t mean anything. At the end of the day we all should just move on with our lives.

You need to cool your jets too, stop saying we gotta jump to attention and put out fires after a commit throws out a cryptic tweet. It's not a need to change the defcon number.
I didn't change any defcon numbers, but it's better to see to a kid's needs than call him a drama queen or some other insult. And it's not that I disagree with the sentiment, but when a recruit voices displeasure on a public forum, you address it. You find the problem, you fix the problem. It's not the end of the world, but it's a problem nonetheless.

easy to do, with no frame of reference to work from. and that doesn't mean i disagree with you, keep in mind.

as for hte football reference, eh. not quite the same thing as it's a shared interest, and we all come from the same frame of reference or point of view..."fan". so all of our opinions and motiviations (for the most part anyway) carry the same weight....and come from the same basic place.

parent/non-parent would more equate to fan/player-coach....from an actual experience/frame of refernece standpoint....

i'd be willing to wager that a lot of the thigns we boil down to the lowest common denominator regarding football, would be highly contested by those coaching/playing....so it shouldn't be a surprise if a parent feels similarly about a non-parent telling them what a crappy job they're doing. (i know nohting was directed at me direclty, it was a generalization)
