+ Tennessee signee Mike Matthews was another standout in a deep and talented group of receivers. Matthews’ athleticism and upside as a pass catcher is apparent in this setting.

Mike Matthews was the top receiver for Team Fire after Cam Coleman. The 6-foot-0.5, 180 pounder showed outstanding ability to separate within his routes during the 1-on-1 period. Matthews was able to hit top speed very quickly and had the look of a dangerous deep threat. The ability to get vertical against the cornerbacks on hand was readily apparent. Matthews’ best play of the day came on a deep ball, as he got behind Auburn signee Jalyn Crawfordand tracked the ball to come down with a diving grab in the back of the end zone. We also saw Matthews create some separation against Five-Star Plus+ corner Ellis Robinson IV. The lone blemish on the Tennessee signee’s day came when he was unable to come down with a few grabs at the catch point. Matthews will need to continue working on his concentration and it’s something he could improve with more reps at wide receiver, as he was a two-way athlete at the high school level. – Charles Power ON3
Matthews proved to be another tough cover as he reeled in a pair of long touchdowns. One of them required him to track the football while falling backwards, which was beyond impressive. Matthews, who is also a talented hooper, made a bunch of similar plays as a senior. His spatial awareness stands out.-247
Not only can he run routes but loves to block and therefore will be on field in 24 getting much playing time. Outstanding WR with huge future. In CHRIST Alone

If Matthews can improve his hands a little he can be an absolute beast. Decent size, great athleticism, great route runner, hard worker, and runs in the 4.4 range in the 40. Could be an All American, and that's not a stretch at all to say that.
