Beat Nebraska in 97 and have a claim to a title

Yea that was a bad game. Fulmer was outcoached and we were manhandled by that physical Nebraska team. Definitely not the best way for Peyton to go out but we still had one of the better teams in the country. That was just a bad night where nothing went right. One of the few times a team just physically beat us and we're the much more physical team. We couldn't stop Scott Frost and Ahman Green ran all over our a$$,. We had Jamal Lewis but Green outplayed him that game.Nebraska hardly passed the ball and we still couldn't stop them. I know that put up 400 rush yards on our really good Defense.

I watched it start to come together in the 80’s. 1989 was the year that started us being competitive throughout the 90’s. 85 and 89 we were close to winning it all as well. And we won 4 in a row on Bama from 82-85. The 80’s had some mixed results with a few up and down years but overall we were competitive. GBO!
I've said it before, i fell in love with the Vols the night of the 86 Sugar Bowl; and, here I am, still. I was just a kid, and really don't remember anything about the season that year, other than the Auburn game and Robinson getting hurt against Bama; but, I do remember everything about that week leading up to Sugar Bowl, and the game itself.

I started to get addicted with the Cotton Bowl, was hooked completely by 1990 Kickoff Classic, and full-blown junky by the 91 Sugar Bowl.

I say those days, late 80's to 2001, were also heartbreaking because, at least, a couple more times, I truly believe we had the best team in the country, and should've won 1 or 2 more National Titles, along with SEC Championships.

But yes, the highs of those days has never worn off, still high to this day
