'19 GA WR Ramel Keyton (Tennessee signee)

I wager my internet reputation that both Wanya and Keyton are in our class.

My internet reputation. Serious business.

Lock it up.

I think we got Keyton for sure. And normally, I'm with you on a guy like Morris. But take it from an experienced recruiting follower like myself...Wanya is going to pick Auburn. I wish it weren't going to unfold like that but unfortunately the tea leaves are leaning Auburn. But I REALLLLLY hope I'm wrong. GBO

100% we’ve seen this scenario play out too many times

We may end up with Wanya in the end but he’s picking Aubie in May. Now once Malzhan is on the hot seat after this year all bets are off.

I don't get it. Malzhan is literally on the hot seat every year. How do they keep getting these big time recruits

Guessing or you know something?

Just reading the tea leaves and optimism. Things he’s said. Opportunities here. Faith in this staff.

Good thing that isn’t worth much!

Put the claws away kitty.

I get it. But I believe as I’ve posted countless times that it’s a new era in Vols football. We’re going to start winning these. Morris is a Vol when all said and done.

It will be a new era when we actually win

He might end up signing with Tennessee but it's really doubtful that's who he picks May 1st, IMO.

* Vols continued to help themselves with WR Ramel Keyton this weekend. One source said Tennessee is the current leader over Ohio State and AU. The 4-star is set for a decision sometime in May. Tennessee has made Marietta High a BIG priority moving forward, with Keyton, 2020 QB Harrison Bailey, 2020 TE Arik Gilbert and 2020 DB Rashard Torrence (who visited for the 3rd time this spring this weekend).

"It was a real family environment," Keyton said. "It was about getting to know everyone better. I know them, but just improve that. They let me know I'm a top priority for them in recruiting. They are recruiting me the hardest right now." "I think it's way better there then it was before," Keyton said. "I think it's on the uprising and being great the way it used to be."

One unit that clearly better is the Tennessee receivers. First-year Vol assistant David Johnson continues to leave his mark both on the field and on the recruiting trail. "He tells me they need receivers and he goes up and down the depth chart," Keyton said. "Both he and coach Helton went over all of that at Junior Day. I like how coach Johnson connects with my family. It just feels natural like a regular vibe."

Keyton plays for a Marietta team that has coveted 2020 prospects Arik Gilbert and Harrison Bailey. It's a talented group that has talked about Tennessee as a group because the Vols are so heavily involved there. Add in the fact that former Vol Derrick Tinsley coaches running backs there at his alma mater and the orange is a topic on regular basis. "We have really been talking about," Keyton said. "Coach Tinsley is always telling us about Tennessee. Ever since my 10th grade year, he's been telling me about Tennessee."

"I'm excited about playing football again," Keyton said. "We are going to win a championship this fall. We lost in the 3rd round last year, but I think we have what it takes to do big things this fall."

Additionally, May could be the month that he decides on a college home. He's trying to narrow things down as he focuses in on a select group of schools that include the Vols and Auburn among others. "I'm thinking about sometime in May," Keyton said. "If my mom and dad like it then I'll like it too. I'm looking for a place that has a mixture of playing time and academics."

“it’s, like, top two: It’s tennessee and auburn right now. They’re recruiting me the hardest, and they're closest with my family,” keyton told 247sports’ keith niebuhr during sunday’s under armour all-america camp at roswell high school. "and my mom really likes it there. She has a connection with the receivers coach at auburn and everybody at tennessee.”

“the coaching staff, it’s way different from what butch used to have,” said keyton. “they’re really trying to win. It’s different. It’s a different vibe — more of a family vibe up there, and not like a business.” keyton said he spoke with pruitt during saturday’s visit, and pruitt made it clear to keyton that he's wanted at tennessee. “me and my mom and her friend were talking to coach pruitt, and we were just talking about trying to get me to commit and stuff,” keyton said. “but i’m trying to wait ’til, like, may. I don’t know where i’m going to commit, though.”

it’s just a matter of sitting down and picking one,” keyton told niebuhr. At one point, keyton said, he “was thinking about” making his decision a bit sooner. “but then my mom, she wanted me to wait a little bit,” he added. “i’m trying to give everybody a chance. I want to wait ’til spring ball to see if anybody’s going to come in or whatever.”

keyton said he’s high on auburn because “they really just need receivers.” “kind of, like, the same thing with both of them,” he said. “they’ve really connected with my family.” he said he’s planning to announce his choice in “probably may,” although he’s still not sure exactly when he might make his decision known. “i don’t know a specific date,” keyton said.

The coaches are different because they're really trying to win. :thud:

I had the same reaction. Butch and crew were probably gung ho and thirsty the first couple years.

The last couple, however, I'm convinced he was just collecting a paycheck. In over his head is an understatement.

He figured out he wasn’t cut out for it and wanted out after his only saving grace, Josh Dobbs, left.

I hope we can land all these big fish we’re in on

By and large, Butch was pretty darn good at bringing in highly rated classes.

His efforts in recruiting to needs left a lot to be desired.

His ability to retain those he recruited was abysmal.

I honestly think after butch’s disappointing fourth season where there was such high expectations and he thought he could buy himself some time if we did well, he was just demoralized for last season.

I believe Butch gave us a bunch of 4 star guys that weren’t takes at other SEC schools. In other words, we got the guys that the big schools flirted with but never offered. I believe those higher ranked classes had a lot of fools gold in them.
