'25 GA WR Travis Smith (Tennessee)

In the Tuesday VQ podcast they talked about how T Smith is under a lot of pressure to stay in state. But he has been connecting with Mike Matthews (another GA kid who had a lot of pressure to pick UGA) about his process and how he managed going against the grain. Said Smith and Matthews will probably be spending a lot of time together this weekend.

AP also said a while back that if it was just Smith’s decision to make without outside influences, it would probably be UT, but the pressure to stay in state is intense.

I hate it when kids parents get involved this hard (Or outside influences). This kid is the one who is going to be living there for years.

Slowly, slowly, Georgia starts to show just a little bit of a chink in their armor possibly. I say this as they will land another awesome class but you see Tenn start to go into their state and take a few more guys.

I’ve said in the past that Tenn needs to follow a path similar to Clemson and seize back those areas we used to recruit well. You’re starting to see that imo more this year.

Life lesson: its easy to make decisions for another individual when you the one detached from the risks and consequences of those decisions

Travis Smith is more than comfortable at Tennessee with the staff, the offense, and the quarterback situation, but there is immense pressure to stay in the state of Georgia and play for the Bulldogs. With that said, it’s feeling like Smith and Georgia seem to be moving in different directions. Smith has connected with former five-star Mike Matthews during the recruiting process about his decision to leave the Peach State and it has helped him answer a lot of questions.
Just last week, former Marietta (GA.) star RB and VFL Derrick Tinsley, who was coaching against Smith’s team in a 7v7, also gave him some words of encouragement about leaving the state, so he is hearing plenty about the Vols coming into the visit. In our estimation, that is what will be most important this weekend. Can Smith see himself being comfortable enough to walk away from the Bulldogs and catch passes on Rocky Top? Alabama has worked to make this interesting as well, and at this point we feel like the Tide is Tennessee’s biggest competition for Smith.

If i was an elite WR, i know i'd be looking at playing in Heupel's offense or a DeBoer offense over Kirby's all day everyday.
Yeah it’s not like Kirby runs a pro-style offense that’s just as explosive as those other offenses or anything….

Georgia hasn’t had a 1,000 yard receiver in over 10 years, it’s just facts
They spread it around and don’t focus solely on one player. Shocking that a balanced offense doesn’t have a 1000 yard receiver….still managed to get Ladd and Bowers giant NFL contracts.

That’s great but with regards to the actual discussion high 4-5 star receivers see that and tend to go places where they get more attempts on the ball.

Nobody is debating their offense isn’t good and effective in what they do and we have a board where if you’d like to talk further on that you can…

It can still be recruited against.
2023 Leading WR: Dominic Lovett 613 Yards
2022 Leading WR: Ladd McConkey 762 Yards
2021 Leading WR: Jermain Burton 497 Yards
2020 Leading WR: Kearis Jackson 514 Yards
They obviously have multiple National Championships in that time frame. So, it depends on what the kid wants. If all he cares about is winning. UGA is going to be hard to beat. If he wants to have big stats. About anywhere else in the country would be better for him.

Alabama is the competition here. I believe we land Smith based on some things I was told but we shall see what the Bama pitch is.

Bama is a wild card in that there is a new offensive minded coach who has put a QB and several WR in the league recently. However, Bama staff doesn’t have the same connections in the south either with Gillespie and Roach being really the only two.

Smith has made really good relationships with current Tennessee players and commits.

I really was hoping Bamas re ruining would drop off. But seems like it’s just fine.
